Every girl has a special. tree of her own which contains seven leaves. The purpose of this is to act<as a. counter. Weekly loss of poundage permits each individual tree owner to extract one leaf from her tree and the first lady that has a barren tree is the winner. this weeks winner is Pat Clancy with a weight loss of twelve lbs in eight weeks. Congratula- tions Pat, I admire your will power. The winner of the "Kitchen" game is Mrs. Shirley Jackson. A brief regarding the re- taining of the Cartwright High School has been sub- mitted to the Durham Board of Education. This brief compiled by the Cart- wright Liaison Committee on behalf of many citizens in this area is one more step in the battle to save the High, School. A petition bearing the signatures of 869 of our local people may quite well be a contribu- ting factor in obtaining this goal. The Chairman of the Liaison Committee, Mr. sordon Cooledge, suggested that those of you that are concerned with, or interes- ted in this matter, contact the Chairman of the Dur- ham Board of Edcucation, and do so at your earliest convenience. Mrs. F. Firlit of View Lake was hostess to the members of the Nestleton Women's Institute on April the 23 in the United Church basement. Mrs. R. Davison, Treasurer, read the financial statement. (Let all members attend this event so as to compliment the members and their leaders by dis- playing our interest.) The President then read literature regarding ideas to raise funds for the new Nestleton Community Cen- tre, which I have been informed may be used by the W.I. Mrs. Thompson conducted the Installation of officers for the coming term, Mrs. R. Davison ac- ted as Secretary. The slate of officers was presented by Mrs. A. Beacock. This was previously prepared by the Nominating Committee. All officers were re- elected with the exception of Mrs. Jean Bolan who shall be P.R.O. for the next year. Mrs. F. Firlit has joined the executive as Assistant Sec. Treasurer. Many reports were sub- mitted by Standing convey- nors etc. Mrs. George Hea- slip gave a full report regarding the progress and official opening of the new Centre which held the inte- rest of all present. The "Roll Call", payment of dues was answered by fourteen women. The meet- ing came to a close in the customary manner. Miss Ruth Proutt expressed the appreciation to Mrs. Firlit and the officers for their hospitality, and delicious luncheon. The May meeting is to be hosted by Mrs. C. Earnshaw in her home in Caesarea. } To whom it may concern . Putsy} Park in Caesarea is privately owned and the owners definitely do not appreciate destructive art alecs using it as a ace track for their cars. he police do not appreciate ther. So if any of you or your visitors have this game in mind fellows, you had better perish the thought. The youths that so flagrantly damaged the lawn int he park on Satur- day with their car may think twice before attemp- ting this type of destruction in the guture. I would ad- vise that they do just that. . think twice. I was asked to relay this mesage to 'you young people by the irate citizens of Caesarea for they also take pride in their community. If any of you recall, at this time last spring I men- tioned in my column that 1 had acquired a new friend, a tiny skunk just as cute as the proverbial button. Each morning he would sit in our garage awaiting his break- fast ( a cob of corn) that 1 had previously thawed for his pleasure. This proceedure continued for approximately three weeks and he then disa- ppeared to the place known by skunks alone. This week I neglected to put the gar- bage out to be collected, so I put the bag in the garage until the next pick-up. Mon- day evening I was disturbed by a noise in the garage and as I opened the door to investigate saw my stinky garbage scatered all over the place. .but no signs of a_ dog or cat or wnat have you. Need- less to say I promptly and sneakily closed the door again. Several = times I looked to see if he had gone but no such luck. Each time I saw him he was noncha- lantly eating, completely ig- noring his surroundings, (but with the "firing" end pointing in my direction. I had the weirdest feeling that 1 was looking at a grenade with the detonator released. The above men- tioned garbage has been removed but he still visits me. My problem is . 'do you know how to discourage a friendly skunk? Do you suppose he could be the "cute" little one I befriend- ed last spring? If so . .can I trust him. Until I find the answer 1 'Shall completely avoid the garage and park my car as far from it gs possible."More on this later. [.wish to take this oppor- tunity to say hello to our aged and inform and to say God bless each of you. We, the not so old, should not cast aside the "Old Folks" as a worn out pair of shoes, but rather, keep in mind, the time will come. .when we'll be Old Folks too. Just a thought . . . An elderly lady, bedrid- den, said to me," my body is but a shell .I am useless. . but oh God I ams still the same Me inside . .why don't my children un- derstand". Think about it, for after all is she not the same person inside where the heart and love and memories linger?? 800 Senior Citizens will visit Ottawa Eight hundred senior citi- zens from all across Canada will travel to Ottawa this spring, at greatly reduced rates, thanks to a special grant of money made avail- able by the Secretary of State. This grant has been awar- ded to the Society for the Study of the Heritage of Canada which is a Canadian non-profit organization. The Society received a subsidy last year which ena- bled them to arrange a similar 7 day trip to the Capital for 1,000 senior citizens. This year, the grant is smaller but it will provide a rewarding experience for 800 Senior Citizen, who will travel in May and June. The criteria for selection is as follows: Wish to enjoy a bicultural experience. WM Original scientific research in Paluxy River of Texas reveals human footprints in the same rock stratum with dinosaur tracks. Bulldozing, sandbagging, flash floods, and the colorful narra- tive of local old-timers all add to the excitement and interest of this fast-moving documentary which shatters the widely- taught geologic table of evolution. seeirar.
