Eight ladies from the Island attended a dessert luncheon in Oshawa last week and walked away with four lucky draws. Following a hot luncheon at Grace' church many young couples are enthu- siastically getting to- gether to form organizati- ons and enjoy social times together as a Community. Recently a farewell party was held at Scugog Hall for Mr. and Mrs. Michael Vanstrien and family prior to their departure to a new farm home: They were pre- sented with - the following gifts: - A dining room mir- ror, a dining room chande- lier, and hibachi for outdoor pleasure. They will be leav- ing on May 16 and soon we shall welcome a young cou- 0.P.P. seek assistance The Ontario. Provincial Pol- ice are seeking assistance with their investigation of a criminal offence. Last Thursday several ladies from the "Head met at the home of Mrs. Clara Dowson to plan a May wed- ding reception and pack a bale. May 13, A.M. is cleaning day at "Grace" church. Ladies please plan your work so you can donate vour time and help. A new set of steps is being planned for "Grace" church and a committee will soon start some activity on it. We are rather discour- aged over the prospets of a mud cat supper as the fish too seem to be changing their habits. But maybe they'll decide to appear again. On Sunday there were as many boys as girls for S.S. Rev. Pogue's story for the children was from a mission story from the Congo in the 1940's when a native from a Cannibal tribe appeared at the mission with a request and ended up by accepting an education and later a training by which he could give Christian ministry to his own people. The adult sermon was also on Mission past and present with reference to Nicaragua, Brazil and Sing- apore where 'Dr. McClure now is. The mission money we send has helped undeve- loped countries with educa- tion, medical work, agricul- ture. famine, tragedy and development of Christianity. But even with this many natives suspect the. white man and his ways. Next Sunday being Family Day we already know of 5 children who will receive Baptism. Perhaps more are interested. If so contact Rev. Barry Pogue. Fifty students and 29 teachers participated in a television workshop held at the Port Perry High School last week. 'They pushed in with their canoes at the 8th concession in Reach, and headed for Seagrave. Some canoes portaged at hair pin bends. One team portaged and ended -up in trout pond. The junior farmers decided after the trip that a hike would have been less hazardous, but they all had a good time. April 26 Junior Farmers Clubs in Ontario County held a spring dance at the Claremont Legion Hall with Peter's Platters in attend- ance. April 29 the club met at the Agriculture office and discussed, among other _ matters, the county track meet at Uxbridge May 25, and about the delegate from Scotland who will visit from May 10 to 24. Both groups received 'hands on' experience in handling cameras and video equipment, lights, writing scripts and actually produc- ing experimental shorts. The students' group pro- duced programs that re- volved around old time slap- stick comedy and poetry reading. The teachers' group pro- duced a program on histori- cal facts in the Port Perry area and another of interest to children. The workshop proved particularly useful to teachers as the high school hopes to have video equip- ment of its own to produce educational programs for students in the school.
