~$ > ~ 2 A Fine play by Juniors Van Camp Construction Juniors made an excellent showing on the week end while playing in the Oshawa Junior Tournament. The Port Perry Team was the only "C" classed team ent- ered in the three day tourna- ment. All other entries were either "A" or "B" entries. 'The local club dropped their first game on Friday evening 3 - 1 to Oshawa Juniors who eventually won the tournament and the right to represent Ontario in the Canadian Championship in Ottawa in August. In the opening game the players seemed very nervous and committed 5 errors behind the two hit pitching of Laurie Williams. Brent Heard was the big hitter with a triple to drive in A bi. RE TEAIA INS the only Port Perry run. On Saturday morning the Van Camp team played the second game against North York Nationals and defea- ted them 5 - 2 with Laurie Williams allowing only 5 hits and contributed two hits of his own. Other hitters in this game were Ron Redman with two hits and singles to Grant McLaughlin and Rob Monroe. The highlight of the tournament for the local team was in the second game on Saturday when the Juniors played the highly rated Scarborough Juniors and defeated them 3 -1in 11 innings. Laurie Williams again went the distants for the Port Perry Club and pitched an excellent game allowing only In Oshawa tournament 6 hits and striking out 9 batters. 'The big blow in this game was a homerun by Rick Campbell in the bottom of the eleventh inning that gave the boy a hard fought emot- ional win. On Sunday the Port team was eliminated from further action by dropping a 5 - 0 game to Owen Sound who eventually made it to the finals. The hot humid weather and 25 previous innings proved too much for the club, but both the coaches and fans are very happy and. proud of the team and with 0.A.S.A. playoffs coming up in August the outlook for a long playoff run seems pretty good.
