Rockefeller and James Benson, chairman of Ogilvie Benson and Mather Limited, London, England, are among the headline per sonalities who will speak at the first jomt converence of the National Newspaper As socration and the Canadian Community Newspapers As- sociation in Toronto. July 24. 25. 26 and 27 NNA comprises some 6.000 weekhes and about 1.000 dailies throughout the United States. CCNA represents more than 500 weeklies from all provinces in _ Canada. More than 2.000 delegates from both organizations are expected to take part in the joint convention program which has been built around the major pertinent ques- tions facing publishers, bus- _iness. industrial and political leaders in today's interna- tional climate. James Benson, well known as an expert in international communications and mar- keting. will talk about the challenge of marketing in an international climate. Gov- ernor Rockefeller will speak on the subject of 'The Press and The Nation' and a sem- inar on July 27th will discuss in depth 'The Freedom of the Press and its Responsibil- ity." One of the key panelists for this discussion of the very essence of publishing will be Richard Schmidt, counsel for the American Society of Newspaper Editors. Canada's Prime Minister will be the featured speaker at the closing banquet on on Canada Night, July 27. Of particular interest to community publishers will be a seminar on July 25th entitled 'The Future is Now.' Relating generally to the production facet of commun iy publishing. it has been developed by a combimation ol the resources of Bell Canada and American Tele- phone and Teléfiraph. In addition to presenting what would appear as futuristic apphcations' of. hardware actually available and in operation today, the seminar also will suggest some novel ideas on the role of the Community Paper as the Communications Centre ol the community A third seminar of special mterest to advertisers and agencies as well as publish crs will concentrate on the subject: "What we Expect and What we Receive from the Community Press as An Advertising Medium' Taking part will be the Hon.
