Hermance is staying with Mina and Rosalyn Mina on a farm at Janetville, north of Port Perry. A friend of the Minas in Mons, France, who teaches - English there, sponsored Hermance for this maiden trip abroad. "It is very different here from my village of Mons" says Hermance with an authentic French accent. "In Mons, I live in the mountains where it is cool, not like the weather is here now' she adds. Hermance finds the humid heat of an Ontario summer "awful! I don't like it!" she exclaims. What she does like is a little pond on a neighbour's farm where she goes swim- ming with George, Demetri and Nejer Mina, the three Mina children. She loves ponds and lakes of which she feels there's a shortage in her part of France. What else does Hermance like here? "Well," she thinks aloud, "I like the informality at meal times. Here we can serve ourselves, eat and leave the room without much fuss when there are only the family around." '"'But back home, I have to sit with everyone at table, Convertible, V.8 days. Lic. Hermance says she would like to see more of Canada. _ "So far I have seen only this farm and Toronto "she ex- plains. She will get a chance soon to see more of Canada. The Minas will be driving to Halifax in early August for a holiday. Hermance likes the food here, though its different from what she's used to, "but what I find funny is the people don't drink wine with their meal." In France, Hermance and everyone else has wine with each meal. However she. realizes wines are overpriced in Ont- ario. According to her a bottle of French champagne which costs $11. here can be bought for as little as just one dollar in France! Hermance has made many friends on her trip here and hopes to make more. How: ever she hasn't much time left as she got to leave by September 2 to be in time for school, where she 1s studying to be an anesthetist.
