These are grown commercially in the states & Lp -and are never cheap and plentiful enough for real indulgence in bowlsful for breakfast, for pies, presery- ing and freezing. Blueberries are now grown commercial- ly in Nova Scotia but as the New England market is so clsoe we don't see them. We learn that north and east of the Laurentians there are hundreds of square miles of heavily bearing blueberry bushes in their wild state and it is now proposed to cultiv- ate them. This is fine and we may hope to have them again, more plentiful and cheaper. (Perhaps such a venture is feasible in our own province) But it won't be the same. The wild and the civilized blueberry are cous- ins, of course, but as every "one knows the wild cousin has always been more inter- esting and appealing than the tame. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Real, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Real and Mr. and Mrs. George Beare visited friends and relatives in the Ottawa district over the weekend. Calling on Mr. and Mrs. Don McKean on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Hunter. Mr. and Mrs. James lanson spent the weekend at Lake Dalrymple. A number of Greenbank people enjoyed the special events at Quaker Hill Mus- eum on Sunday. SAVE ON Premium Quality © GASOLINE © DIESEL ° MOTOR OIL Farm tanks and pumps available. The sudden cloudburst and subsequent rains which put their acres under water have persuaded the Sark family to seek pastures new. Fortun- ately the hull of the house- boat was completed and after erecting a tarpaulin over it Mrs. Sark and Georg- ette were able to remove the animals from the sanctuary and Mr. Ham Sark and his brother, Cutty, from the flooding. True pioneers by nature, they intend to home- stead in northern Quebec where wild life and deep bush they find attractive. Noah and Jeff will stop for a time in Kingston where they hope to learn trades useful on the frontier. Jean-Paul and Nap Sark will accomp- any their uncle and aunt to their new home. As a fare- well, Mrs. Sark would like to pass on this receipe - evening primrose roots mashed with ham, pork, egg and sea- sonings make very tasty meat balls. She would also like to bring to the attention of our readers that all her recipes can be found in The Edible Wild, published by Pagurian Press. Also assure her neighbours that kindly and helpful authorities have undertaken to return the utensils and appliances they borrowed to their owners and which they did not have time to return themselves. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Lee were in Montreal for the weekend as guests of Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Wilkinson. While there they enjoyed the Expo ballgames. Also from here to see the Expo weekend games were Mr. Gary and Mr. Don Spence. There will be a card party at the hall on Friday, August 30. With this paragraph the writer turns the column over to the regular contributors and prepares to leave for Great Britain and western Europe for the fall months. This year the pleasures of Europe are uncertain, in- deed, but there is a possibil- ity of an election in the U.K. which with the present temper of the people is sure to be absorbing and as the last few years have taught us only too well, anything can happen there and every- where.
