Dean McLaug- hiin of Oshawa won the Can- adian Championship, Mr. Roy McLaughlin of Black- stock placed four in the AAA Class and Walter Pascoe of Port Perry won 4th place in the A Class. Mr. and Mrs. R B. Mason of Victoria, B.C. were in town recently visiting friends. Mr. Mason was a former resident of Scugog Island. Mr. Bruce Beare is spend- ing a weeks vacation with his twin brother Burgess in Georgia. U.S.A. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Short have just returned from a three week vacation in the western Provinces. Officers and members of the Port Perry Orange Lodge held a corn roast last Saturday evening for friends and family. Well over 100 were in aftendance, includ- ing many visitors from sur- rounding lodges. All report a good time. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Roach attended the funeral of the late John Clifford Wright on Saturday, August 16 in Toronto. Mr. Wright his wife and daughter Gayle were one time residents of Port Perry. Mr. Wright was a barber here for sometime. Congratulations to Miss Sharon Williams and Mr. Peter Walmsley. both of Oshawa, who were married in the United Church at Manchester on Saturday. Mr. Walmsley's desire was to be married in an old fashioned church and his wish came true on Satur- day. Manchester church is well over 100 years old. Mr. and Mrs. H.M. Conner and Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Hancock of Ottawa have been guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Slemmon for a few days recently. 0.P.P. use seat belts Ontario Provincial Police personnel have been instruc- ted to use seat belts while driving on duty. OPP Com- missioner H.H.
