Juniors even series defeat Carlshad 6-3 VanCamp Construction Juniors have evened their 0.A.S.A. All-Ontario Semi- final series at one game each, by defeating Carlsbad Springs 6 - 3 in Port Perry on Saturday evening. Laurie Williams was the complete story in this game for the local club as he pitched and batted his team from behind - to a hard fought victory. 5 Williams held the visitors to six hits and struck out 10 batters, but the big effort of. this game was his hitting as he had four hits in four times at bat. including two sing- les, a triple and a game winning three run home run to break a 3 - 3 tie in the . bottom of the eight inning. The VanCamp pitcher had lots of help from his team- mates as they collected 10 hits off John Pigeon who started the game for Carls- bad Springs and one hit off their ace pitcher Marcel Brondin who pitched two third of a inning in relief. Top hitters for the local team were Steve Cochrane with two hits as did Brent Heard, Brian Smith. and Grant McLaughlin. Ken Davidson also had one base hit for the winners. Van Camp Juniors twice had to come from behind to achieve victory as they trailed 2 - 0 and 3 - 2 before - there big three runs in the eight inning. The third and deciding game in this series will be played on a neutral diamond next week end, (possibly Saturday in the Belleville area). The team must again come up with a big effort as Blackstock men Win horseshoe competition Roy and Harold McLaugh- lin, Blackstock captured top honours in the horseshoe pitching competition at Port Perry Fair on Labour Day. 12 teams entered the competition and in second place was the team of W. Pascoe and C. Jackson, Port Perry. Third, G. Ray and W. Crowe, Lindsay; fourth, M. Crowe and S. Smoke, Rose- neath; fifth, B. Cartledge and B. Criston, Scarbo- rough: Sixth, A. Jeffery and I.. Beacock, Prince Albert. Carlsbad Spring will be pitching their top player, Marcel Brondin in this crui- cial game. The infield must come up with a tight defensive game as they again played loose in last Saturday's game and gave the visitors two un- earned runs, and against Brondin this number of runs - could be enough for a defeat. The hitters must also solve the deliveries of the pitcher and score runs to win. This should be an exciting game and the ball club would appreciate a good turn out of fans. i [3 AP PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Sept. 11, 1974 -- 23 g fo Hi Vi PORT PERRY MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION AT THE PORT PERRY ARENA SEPT. 20 SEPT. 21 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
