Thursday, January 2, the Murray Williams Bobcats Midget 2 hosted the Lindsay club who won 6 to 2in a game where the Bobcats were very disorganized because of new players added to the lineup. Kevin Williams and Gord Hintze were the lone scorers for the Bobcats. Tony Butzer with two, Gerry Garveread, Jeff Coamam, Mike Lafete and Doug Webster added the scoring power for Lindsay. Stouffville 5 - Port Perry 4 Friday, January 3, the Murray Williams Bobcats Midget 2 team travelled to Stouffville and ran into a hot goaltender. Port Perry 4 - Bowmanville 3 Saturday January 4, the Murray Williams Bobcats second period. The Legion- aires came out strong in the third period and by the mid-way mark of the period had again increased their advantage to two goals. Wellington cut the margin to one at the 12:03 mark. They pulled their goaltender late in the game in favour of an extra attacker but were unable to get the equalizer. This was the best game of the day with both teams skating and checking well. first place travelled to Bowmanville and came up with their strongest game of the year beating the powerful Bow- manville Club 4 to 3. The third game saw Port matched against the Country Strings from Oshawa. This Oshawa team whom we had previously defeated 7 to 4 in an exhibition game were up for this Championship game and the Legionaires had all they could handle in winning 4 to 3. The big shooters for the day were Burnett, Brown and Kane but overall it was a good team effort that brought the Championship to Port Perry. Every boy on the team shared in the scoring points. Franssen and Myers split the goaltend- ing duties and gave the team good consistent goaltending. December 27th, the Legionaires went to Wood- ville and for the second day in a row won all their three games to again bring home the championship trophy. The first game Port were up against the host Woodville team and had to play over- time before winning 8 to 7. This was probably Ports poorest game of the six with the defense and goaltending in particular, not up to their usual form. Woodville were two goals up with just better than five minutes remaining in the game. A late rally by Port pulled this one out as Burnett scored twice in the final five minutes of regulation time to tie the score and send the game into overtime. Brown potted the winner at the 3:08 mark of overtime. The second game, Legionaires came to life and drubbed Peterborough 10 to 0. The third game Port again came up with a good solid team effort to defeat Little Britain 6 to 2. Little Britain were a small but fast skating and good forechecking club. After a slow start in the first game against Wood- ville, the defense of Jobb, Storry, Parker, Robinson and Wilbur played good solid hockey. Myers and Franssen came back after that first game to give the team their usual good solid goaltending. The Burnett, Brown, Potts line led the way in goal scoring. The other two lines of Durward, Kane, Menzies, and Tobin, Andrews, Sandi- son played good two-way hockey. Other recent victories by the Legionaires were 3 to 1 over Stone Realtors Pee Wee team, 8 to 1 over Pickering, and 6 to 2 over Bay Ridges. A 4to0defeat to Stouffville on January 3rd snapped the teams nine game winning streak. To date the teams record is 16 wins, 7 loses, 2 ties. Goals for 139, goals against 81. Eight minutes later, Pete Lane blasted one into Picker- ing's net to tie up the game once more. This play was setup by Scott Wilbur and Mark Lee. Twenty seconds after Lane's goal, Bill Owen chucked one by their goalie to give Port the lead for the first time. Mike Hamilton picked up the only assist on this goal. With only one minute left in the second period, Picker- ing scored to again tie up the game 3-3. Mike Healey ripped one past the goalie from the point twenty-five seconds into the third period of play. At the two minute mark, Mark Lee assisted Pete Lane who drove Ports fifth goal home. Steve McIntyre banged Ports sixth goal in with Pete Lane assisting it. With three minutes left in the game, Terry Feigler deflected Ports last goal into Pickerings net.
