The fans that came out to watch midget hockey were rewarded 'with a fast close checking game. In the first period, Robert Evans led off with a hard shot from just inside the blue line. Rick Taylor set up the play-and earned the assist. Cobourg tied the score quickly and then Port Perry came back at the 7:26 mark. John Scott took a fine lead pass from Phil Cochrane to put the Wheels ahegd. te The Wheels scoréd again -« eo at :09 seconds of the Second period when Don Tran pick- ed the corner on a play set up by John Scott and John Kane. Cobourg closed the gap at the end of the second period but Evans scored the clinch- er in the third period with John Kane picking up his second assist of the evening and Dave Horton also count- ing an assist. Jon Bourgeois and Charlie Durward shared the net- minding and both made some spectacular saves. On Saturday, January 25, the Toyota team travelled to 2 Bobcaygeon. > <* In the first game they were blanked 5-0 by Stouffville who played a strong game and outshot Port Perry by a wide margin. Stouffville showed they could play excellent hockey by staying away from stupid penalties. " Cochrane was the leader with twe goals and Gord Scott counted one to defeat the Lakefield 3-2. In the final game the Port Perry boys played Oshawa. -Dave Horton counted twice and John Scott, Larry Page and Phil Cochrane scored singles to win the consolation championship 5-3 over the Oshawa team. Play-offs are coming up and the boys will have to work hard to keep strong in the up-coming games. Lindsay tournament winner A . PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1975 -- 21 PeeWees win consolation trophy Saturday, January 25, the Legion Pee Wee's lost their first game to Lindsay by a narrow 2 to 1 margin. They came back to win the next two games 2 to 1 over Peterborough and 5 to 2 over Nobleton to win the Consol- ation trophy. Lindsay won the- Championship trophy and their big number two on defense won the Joe Fowler Memorial Trophy and a cash award for being picked the most valuable player of the. day. Port were out hustled by Lindsay in the first game, however, the winning goal was not the kind you like to be beaten by. A shot from near centre ice rebounded off the boards and deflected off Frannsens skate into the corner of the net. The second game against Peterborough was a closely fought battle that could have gone either way. Myers made several good saves and the team overall played well. The Brown-Burnett-Potts line took the starch out of Nobleton early in the third game with two quick goals. Port added a third to take a three goal lead and then seemed content to just skate as hard as they had to. The tempo of the game slackened off and the teams exchanged two goals each for a final score of 5 to 2. Burnett was the top points getter for the day with one goal and three assists. Other goal scorers were Wilbur 3, Brown 2, Kane and Tobin 1 each. picking up assists were Menzies with 3, Robin- son and Potts two each, Sandison and Durward one each. Wilbur and Tobin came up with some of their best games of late. Robinson and Brown also turned in top efforts. Flami Port Perry Flamingo Pas- tries Juniors moved into sole possession of first place in the Central Ontario Junior "C" Hockey League by vir- tue of two wins in three games this last week. On Tuesday night, the local Club travelled to Port Hope and edged the Pan- thers 3-2 in an exciting if not impressive game. The Flamingos played two good periods to take. a one goal lead into the final frame, but needed some sensational goaltending from Wayne Cordingly to preserve the win, as the Panthers had 21 shots in the third period. Robin Kydd scored two goals for Port Perry with Ed Olsen scoring a single. Brad Davis dnd Gary Rowe count- ed for Port Hope. The Lindsay Trent-Mus- kies moved into a temporary tie for first place as they defeated the Port Perry club 5-1 in Lindsay Friday night. Bob Young scored the opening goal for the Fla- mingos and the club could have built up a bigger lead as they missed a couple of break-aways- in the first period. Mike Hadley and Steve Doyle put the Muskies SENN -- Uxbridge HURRY' Our supply is limited Jos Friday, January 24, the Legionaires played one of their poorer games of the year as Stouffville walked away with a 6 to 3 victory. The last couple of weeks the team has had a slack period playing only once a week and ahead 2-1 to stay in the second period and then add- ed three more goals late in the game to "sew up" gthe contest. ¢ On Sunday evening the Flamingos moved back into the "top spot" with a 9-3 win over a shorthanded Sutton Rangers team. Neil McLaughlin had two goals with Rick Campbell, Dave Hill, Bob Young, Bernie Aldred, Carlo Camaz- zola, Larry Elson and Ed Olsen all scoring single markers. The Flamingos finished their games last night in Bowmanville and now must wait to see in what position they will finish in the stand- ings and whom they will meet in the first round of the play-offs. The play-offs are as fol- these fellows have got to be busy to play their best hockey.
