Over 300 people from as far away as Winnipeg, King- ston, Alora, Windsor, Peter- borough and Toronto showed up for the Sunday afternoon celebrations, a day before the actual anniversary. Daughter Mrs. Allene Kane of Scugog Island and their children Carol, Kathie, John and Billy attended as did sisters and brothers of the couple. Greetings came from the Governor General and government representatives such as Robert Stanfield, John Diefenbaker, Ontario Premier Bill Davis, Bill Newman, and others. A plaque was presented on behalf of the Ontario govern- ment by MPP Dr. Matthew Diamond, and among those who attended were chairman of the Region of Durham Walter Beath and Scugog Mayor Lawrence Malcolm. The couple also received a congratulatory letter from Rev. Verner McNeely of Florida - the minister who married the couple 50 years ago. The Sweetmans are the fourth generation of their and then operated a general store on the Island. He served in the air force during the war, and went into car- pentry when he returned. He then became roads foreman for the county and later took ona job at Fairview Lodge in Whitby, where he finally retired a few years ago. Also on hand at the celebrations were the coup- le's best man and brides- maid, Allen Sweetman and Mrs. Aileen Chamberland. Mr. Sweetman is the groom's brother and Mrs. Chamberland the bride's sister. Greenbank news Mr. and Mrs. V. Mount attended the wedding of her niece Miss Anne Bowser to Mr. Michael Trusler in Aurora on Saturday. Miss Gail Blakely was at her home over the weekend. Mr. Eddie Bain is conval- escing at his home after surgery in Oshawa Hospital. Don't forget the euchre in the hall on Friday evening. All those present enjoyed the vocal solo by Lana Perry at the Sunday morning church service. Mrs. Myrtle Thomas visited with Mr. and Mrs. John Sweetman on their 50th Anniversary at Scugog Hall, Sunday afternoon. Miss Jill Stone visited with her family over the weekend. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. T. Crawford, a son. The February Women's Institute Meeting will be on the 19th at 2 p.m. in the hall. Mrs. Charles Hadden is giving a travelogue on Alaska and the Yukon. Everyone welcome.
