Over 300 people from as far away as Winnipeg, King- ston, Alora, Windsor, Peter- borough and Toronto showed up for the Sunday afternoon celebrations, a day before the actual anniversary. Daughter Mrs. Allene Kane of Scugog Island and their children Carol, Kathie, John and Billy attended as did sisters and brothers of the couple. Greetings came from the Governor General and government representatives such as Robert Stanfield, John Diefenbaker, Ontario Premier Bill Davis, Bill Newman, and others. A plaque was presented on behalf of the Ontario govern- ment by MPP Dr. Matthew Diamond, and among those who attended were chairman of the Region of Durham Walter Beath and Scugog Mayor Lawrence Malcolm. The couple also received a congratulatory letter from Rev. Verner McNeely of Florida - the minister who married the couple 50 years ago.
