The Jamboree will go from July 29 to Aug. 7, and tours from August 8 to 15, with return passages to ° Canada scheduled for Aug. 15 and 16. Those chosen to go on the excursion are some of the most accomplished scouts in the area. Leaders are asked' to submit names of their best scouts and from these lists, the boys are chosen. ¢on- siderations include initiative, interest in scout- ing, personality and more. Only two were originally allotted to go from the Pine Ridge District, but drop-outs in surrounding districts has allowed an additional four boys from the district to go, creating an unexpected financial crunch. To help the costs, a number of dances have been held at Club Annrene and three more are planned on March 22, May 10 and 24. About $350.00 per boy is needed. Service clubs and other community organizations have been contacted as well, and Port Perry Kinsmen have already donated a sum of money. But it is what the boys put . into the trip that will result in the most value. As ambasssadors of Canada, boys will learn about their counterparts from all over the world. The skill to observe and com- municate is also a must, since boys will be asked to pass on what they've seen and learned to their own groups when they return to Canada. Scroll Quilted - Famous Flex-0-Loc the jamboree is that 1t gives the boys a chance to meet others from all over the world, yet the jamboree itself can hardly be con- sidered a week's vacation. As well as, sailing, rowing, fishing, swimming, canoeing and other sports activities, an active program has been set up to keep the boys interested and busy. Technical groups will deal with engines, amateur radio and computers, and some groups will visit an electric power plant. Handicraft centres will offer various materials to work with, and scout craft will concentrate on advanced and typical Nordic activities. Physical activities will put emphasis on Nordic summer sports like orienteering (cross country running with map and compass), volley- ball and obstacle race. Environment and nature protection will include studies of nature in general, especially a forest area, experiments on water, dis- cussions about energy prob- lems and more. Museums, cultural and municipal institutions will also be visited. "The Great Adventure of Nordjamb '75' will be a hike in which all participants will join. Aim of the hike is to teach Scouts how to survive in unknown terrain with only the most necessary equip- ment. It is also aimed for promoting cooperation and mutual understanding with the international patrols of eight. Four routes of varying dif- ficulty typical terrain of Norway will challenge the boys' skills. The program has built-in flexibility as well, and boys have a choice of tours in the post-jamboree period. Boys can tour Oslo, Bergen and the Fjords, the Norwegian Fjords and mountains, or a three capital tour, Oslo, Stockholm, and Copenhagen. Boys have a choice of going on a bicyle tour in Den- mark, as well.
