Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Roach spent the weekend with her sister Mr. and Mrs. John Richardson, Toronto. 4-H Club News - MANCHESTER 4-H NEWS The Manchester 4-H Club held the first meeting for the new unit, A World of Food in Canada, on Monday evening, February 10, at Margaret Wanninkhof's. The meeting opened with the 4-H Pledge followed by the election of officers - President Judy Rudkin; Secretary Bev Rudkin; Treasurer Belinda Espley; Press Reporter Patricia Bolton. We did a short quiz on cooking terms, discussed succotash and made blue- berry buckle, which was a tasty dish. Meeting No. 2 was held at Mrs. Kingstones, Monday evening, February 24. Our meeting was opened with the '4-H Pledge. The name of our club will be called Tasty Treaters. We discussed the use of spices; then French soup and tourtiere was made and sampled. Meeting No. 3 was held at Mrs. Kingstones on Monday, March 3rd. Our meeting was opened with the 4-H Pledge and minutes of the last meet- ing read. We had a discus- sion on wild foods found in our community and means of storing vegetables both past and present. We reviewed Canada's Food Guide and then made Irish soda bread and Welsh Rabbit. Patricia Bolton- SEAGRAVE 4-H The fourth meeting was held, March 5th, in the Sea- grave Church Basement with eight present. Diane Barr took charge of the meeting in the absence of the president. The meeting was opened with the pledge. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Diane Barr. We briefly discussed our skit which is entitled "A Party with a Foreign Flare'. It was decided to have a party for our Mothers, Meeting 8. Mrs. Zolitz and Mrs. Kuehnel were our guests at the meeting. The art of German cooking was demon- strated by a Fruit Cake and Obst Torte. A general work meeting was held March 12th in the Seagrave Church Basement with six present. With little business, we went quickly into Group Work. We divided into two groups making Dutch Chocolate and German Tea squares. While these were baking, we samp- led five varieties of cheese and discussed from which country they came. We also played a game of concentra- tion, matching the cooking terms. We sampled the foods and the meeting was adjourned. ' 19, 1975 - Sunderland Seed Fair and Feed Show The Ontario County Soil and Crop Improvement Association is sponsoring a Seed Fair and Feed Show, to be held on Thursday, March 27th, in the . Town Hall, Sunderland. The exhibits of grain, for- age seed, hay, silage, and the feed classes for dairy and beef, will be set up in the Town Hall, Sunderland, 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., and judging will be completed by 12:00 noon. The afternoon program will start at 1:45 p.m. Mr. Harvey Wright, Soils and Crops Specialist, Depart- ment of Crop Science, Uni- versily of Guelph, will speak on the topic "Where Do We Stand on Forages'. Also, on the program, will be Mr. Roy Calverley, Farm Safety Con- sultant, Farm Safety Assoc- iation of Ontario. Good seed and good feed are basic in a sound farm management program. The Seed Fair and Feed Show assists in maintaining a high standard of quality in seed and feed, and also affords an excellent opportunity to exchange views on crop growing and storage. Inflation survival course filled Public interest in the Dur- ham Board of Education's Inflation Fighters' Survival Course has been most gratifying, according to a Board spokesman. All seg- ments of the course are now filled and no further appli- cations for enrolment are being accepted. The course, which com- mences on Tuesday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m: at Vanier Secondary School, Oshawa, has an enrolment of 120 for each of the five segments.
