Is Seagrave a busy com- . munity or not? ® Wedding bells are once again ringing in the hamlet of Seagrave and this time it's for Miss Patricia Woodcock who is to be married to Mr. Dennis Lycett on June 28th in our church. Pat was a lucky recipient to a Community Shower on Monday evening in the church basement where she received many lovely and useful gifts. I might also add at this time, that we have another bride-to-be in our midst. Miss Darlene Watts is to be married in late July to Mr. Dennis Johnson. Plans are now underway for a com- munity shower to be held for this happy couple on Friday, July 11th, so please keep this date in mind. A large number of area residents and friends attend- ed a Benefit Dance for Mr. Bill Fitze of Harper's Corn- ers last Saturday evening. The dance realized a large amount of money for Bill who is now home and back on his feet. It certainly is heart warming to see we still care about our friends and neigh- bours and a big word of praise goes to the Harper family for organizing this special evening. On Wednesday evening the ladies of the U.C.W. met for their monthly general meet- ing. It was a special occasion commemorating the 50th anniversary of the United Church of Canada. It was also a pleasure to have a few of the former residents who were members of the U.C.W. with us that evening. Mrs. Annie Clements was asked to speak on the topic and that was to reminisce Seagrave Church over 'the past 50 years. Mrs. Clement inform- ed us that she hadn't been in Seagrave for 50 years but would talk about what she Weighs only 12 Ibs.® Cuts an 8" log in i 6-seconds Rugged 3.3 cu. in. engine o 16" bar and chain o Proven dependability! Here are a few items of interest that I would like to pass along. Did you know that Sea- grave congregation was formed in 1876? Later on we were united with Pleasant Point and Zion under the Methodist Ministry. Mr. and Mrs. William Keene of Seagrave had the first church wedding in 1936 a fowl supper was an annual event up to the Second World War. Local residents donated what they had and Mrs. Clements commented that in one year she checked, they had 55 chickens and 14 geese donated for this supper. By the way, in 1935 they could buy geese for 15¢ per lb. In 1948, Mr. Wes Crosier re- introduced the Fowl Supper, now known as our annual Turkey Supper and I'm proud to say its been an annual event since. She spoke on the changes in the church building, the changes in the congregation, the changes in devotion and the social side. She also mentioned that we have 13 residents who still attend our church who have been mem- bers for over 50 years. This certainly was a treat to listen to'Mrs. Clements tell of the past history of the Seagrave United Church. The ladies had been asked to bring a baby picture of themselves for a guessing contest on who each picture was during the social hour in the basement. A special thanks to Mrs. Hunter, Mrs. Fishley, Mrs. McNeil, Mrs. Hurst, Mrs. Zoltz and Mrs. Nichols for the special evening of fun and devotion. The Board of Stewards are busing themselves in getting estimates for painting the trim on our church and they M McCULLOCH CHAIN BAWS A&A Small Engines Hwy. 12 North of Greenbank Phone 985-3963 & 985-2905 For bast results always use McCulloch powsr-matched chains, bars and sprockets. also are planning to put storms on the stained glass windows in hopes to cut down on the heating costs. In order to help deplete these costs of repairs, the U.C.W. ladies have decided to hold a Straw- berry Supper in the church basement. Please watch for this date and plan to attend. They have also accepted to cater to the Watts wedding reception at the end of July. Many of the local ladies were pleased to accept the invitation to attend the Open House, Mrs. Morley Bruce held in honour of her daughter Donna on Thurs. afternoon and evening.
