First and foremost a .¢ Special thanks to the person gor persons who answered last weeks request for the Indian Rain Dance! We finally got a little shower on Thursday but we sure could do with more so-keep-on-a- dancin'. . On Friday evening you could find a large number of area residents in the church ® basement attending the shower of Miss Darlenne Watts and Mr. Dennis John- son. The evening opened with our M.C., Mr. Len Som- erville welcoming everyone. It was a pleasure to have special music rendered by Mr. George Timms who was accompanied by Mrs. Joan @ Lee on the piano. We were then entertained by a Shot- gun Mock Wedding of Dennis Allan Tightwad and Darlinne Anne Henpicker. The cast, of course, consisted of a few of the more civilized citizens of the community being - Mr. Cliff Short, Mrs. Marilyn Beacock, Mr. Ellsworth Kennedy, Mrs. Diane Puck- & rin, Mr. Neil Wanamaker and Mrs. Betty Somerville. Dennis and Darlinne were then called to their special chairs and the Master of Ceremonies read an approp- riate poem from the com- munity. They then proceed- ed with opening some very . lovely gifts and of course the evening came to a close in a social hour and an abundant _ lunch. A special thank you from the hostesses for all the generous help. We have a new landmark at the south end of Seagrave. This time Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sténe have erected a lovely new above-ground swim- ming pool just in time to usher out the heat wave. You can be assured their neig- bours certainly are grateful for this new watering hole! I'm sorry to say we still have a couple of our resi- dents hospitalized this week. Our "Get Well Quick" wishes go to Mrs. Bill Howell who has been in the hospital for a couple of weeks now and also to Mrs. Norma Abraham who I understand has a remedy that sure beats the field of medicine. The Abrahams are delighted to ® have their son Barry, his a Wife and two children home from British Columbia for a couple of weeks holiday. This certainly will be a great reunion because Barry Burketon News Mrs. M. Brown, Port .e Perry was a caller of Mrs. W. Bryan on the holiday. Congratulations to Mr. Tony Turnbull on winning the award at G.M. Mr. and 'Mrs. Wm. Mac- donald, Oshawa visited Mrs. W. Bryan during the week. Mrs. S. Grant, Alan and David, Zion, spent Saturday » With Mrs. R. Davey. Mr. Terry Hubbard, Tor- onto, (formerly of Burketon)" can be heard on CHUM announcing sports. His radio name is Steve Elliott. Mrs. S. Tabb, Bowman- ville visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. A. Swain and family. Mrs. B. Lee and family, Oshawa spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. H. Grace and family. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Trick, Lindsay were Sunday callers & of Mrs. E. Carnochan and neighbours. hasn't been home to Sea- grave for 12 years. Welcome home! Also a welcome home greeting goes to Mr. Bernie Balling who is home on a three week vacation visiting his family. Bernie has been in Germany for a year ap- prenticing in an electronic course and has a couple of more years to go. Another special welcome back to the area, goes to Mr. and Mrs. Herb Eagleson who have taken up residence in the Community Nursing Home in Port Perry. Mr. and Mrs. Eagleson were once residents of Seagrave and it'll be great to see them back in our midst. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Wana- maker headed into Toronto on Sunday to unite with other relatives in a special family reunion held in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Rattenbury of Glen Ellen, Illinois. This special event was hosted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Mark. While we are welcoming home these special people we have one resident who's getting farther away from home. I understand Mr. Earl Barr has accepted a position in Inuvik, way up north of the = A a Yo» > YEA 3) LRA u FONE | Arctic Circle. Earl's about to send a want ad to the Port Perry Star requesting long undies, so if anyone has an- extra pair they're not using, please forward them to Earl -he's going to need them this winter! Unit I held a very success- ful picnic last Thursday with a very special thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Don Hunter for opening their cottage for this event at Oakdene Point. After a lovely lunch was served, the ladies spent the afternoon socializing and playing a few fun games. A welcome mat goes out to a couple of new residents in our village, namely Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Burnett and family from Oshawa who have purchased one of the new homes behind the store. Upon surveyance of the village one will also notice work has been started on a new home being erected be- side the Tobin residence. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Willerton are building this new home. Birthday greetings this week go to Mrs. Bruce Kellington who I understand had a very lovely evening out to celebrate this event. Many more Heather! Also a happy birthday greeting to Master John Sturman and to anyone else I might have missed. A plead is going out from Unit II for recipe's that this Unit would like to compile. We would ask that anyone having a favourite recipe they would like to pass on, please forward it to Mrs. Don Beacock or Mrs. Roy Puckrin by the end of this week. They would be more than grateful. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Boyle and Kelly have been on a' weeks vacation visiting at Roger's parents cottage on Georgian Bay and then spending a couple of days at Niagara Falls.
