In fact some health profes- sionals, who have retired, suggest the mid-forties is not too early. Most persons retiring fronf an active work role find their greatest need, - beyond the necessities of life, is to find a satisfying substi- tute role. This may be in the form of continuing to work' part-time, to take courses to learn about new things or to invest more time in hobby ° interests. Many senior citi- zens are serving as volun- teers. The kind of 'adjust- ment and degree of happi- ness achieved in retirement arelikely tobe a continuation of the happiness found in the middle and earlier years of your life. Members of the Ontario Nursing Home Association who' are owners of nursing homes realize that nursing homes have different atmospheres and appeal to people in different ways. For instance, it may be a con- "venience to you to choose a nursing home close to where youlive-so you can visit your uncle easily. If your uncle is anextrovert and hasled-a life where he has been in contact with many people, he may preted toliveina large home " where there are many resid- ents and all sorts of activities and programs. One large nursing home has a men's club that meets weekly. If he . is used to the city, a down- town nursing home may appeal tohim, However, if he is used to a rural, environ- meént he may prefer a small- er home in the country,: where he can enjoy being bustle of a busy town or city. If you visit a nursing home discuss the facilities with the administrator and or -the Director of Nursing to help you make the best decision. 'How do I apply for the Meals-On-Wheels program?
