18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1975 Flamingos show strength Overpower CobourgCougars8-4 By Wayne Venning «Flamingo Pastries Junior "C" Hockey Club officially opened the 1975-76 exhibition hockey season with a 84 victory over the Cobourg Cougars at the Uxbridge Arena, Sunday night. The Flamingos with only five regulars from last season in the line-up had little trouble defeating the Cougars who are themselves in a rebuilding job with the loss of twelve regulars from last year. The local club held a 3-1 lead after the first period on goals by Doug Christie, Dean Morgan and Orville Crowder while Brian Read replied for Cobourg. Andy Litt and Bob Marquis scored two goals each in the third period with Mike Davies getting a single. Bill Whitelaw with two and Rick Stevenson completed the scoring for the Cougars. Veteran referee Andy Claus kept a chippy game well in handing out 21 penal- ties to the Flamingos while the visitors had 23 penalties. This years junior team will definitely have more size and muscle on the forward line, then did last years squad. The addition of Dean Mor- gan, a tough winger from Oshawa, who has played for Port Hope Panthers for two seasons, and Orville Crowder from Little Britain. They are "centred by Doug Christie who could be headed for his best season ever as a Flamingo. The second line has Bob Marquis returning to centre with rugged Andy Litt and young Bill Newton from Ux- bridge who played a strong gamein the Cobourg Exhibit- ion game. The third line still appears to be open with only Carlo Cammazzola being a sure entry. In goal, Wayne Cordingly will be returning and should be number one with either Bill Eritz or Rick Best as back-up. The defensive corps may be the big problem for coach Wayne Redshaw this season, as there are no returning players from last season and the defense will be "young" and "inexperienced". hdd ddd ee TTT SportslLand Ld Xp 68 Water St., Port Perry - 985-2174 - Jim Burnett, prop. : PE) Skate Sharpening & Exchange Koho and Louisville HOCKEY STICKS ee i Port Perry Minor Hockey MEETING FOR HOUSE LEAGUE eo Coaches e Referees e Time Keepers Sunday, October 5th., 7:30 p.m. PORT PERRY ARENA ST TTS o CREST HARDWARE "e PORT PERRY MARINE o MCINTYRE UPHOLSTERY Soonts Scott Robinson, Larry Pil- key and Jamie Malcolm were - the most impressive of the six 'defencemen used on Sunday night.
