Norm Cafik claims he hasbeen approach- ed several times to vie for the provincial leadership of the Liberal party since the Sept. 18 election but remains un- decided on the question. Through his research assistant John Biermans, Mr. Cafik stated that he is satisfied with the role he has been playing in Ottawa. But that does not disguise Mr. Cafik's interest in suc- ceeding Robert Nixon, who announced' his resignation Tuesday in the Ontario - Liberals' caucus. He "wants to keep his options open'* Mr. Biermans stated. Mr. Cafik came close to winning the provincial lead- ership two years ago when he ransecond to Mr. Nixon at an Ontario Liberal convention in Toronto. He lost when former M.P.P. Donald Deacon, who had been dropped on the second last ballot, swung his support behind Mr: "Nixon to defeat the federal member on. the final ballot. There could be a second local candidate. These folks also entertained Mrs. Venner's sister, Miriam Champ ot Toronto, for the weekend. Miss Melody Anne Somer- villewas a guest at a birthday party for her cousin, Miss Leanne Munro of Epsom on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Wana- maker were entertaining this weekend. They had Mrs. Elva Martyn, Mrs. Iris Bonner, Arlene, Valerié and Tracey, and Mr. and Mrs. E. The Bright family gather- ed at Lakeview Manor in Beaverton on Sunday to cele- brate Isaiah's 96th birthday. We are glad to report that Mrs. Sina Bright is feeling better and able to get out of hospital for a few hours during the week.
