I's ~ a EJ LJ fg * Nestleton, Caesarea area news It would seem that the Caesarea T.0.P.S. Club are making a reputation for themselves...an excellent one of course. At the recent convention held in the Polich Hall in Oshawa, Caesarea was well represented. The area Queen of the T.0.P.S. . (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is Mrs. Jim Fowler and the runner-up' is. her mother, Mrs. Norm Tennyson. There are at present two contenders for that coveted title, they are in the persons of Mrs. Irene Train and Mrs. Shirley Gettins. It shall be interesting to see which of these ladies shall succeed. Good luck, girls. The group h as been divided into two sections. The girls with the most weight loss by Decem- ber the 15th shall be treated "to a dinner at an exclusive 'restaurant. I hope they do not forget to watch those _ calories. Mrs, Jim Fowler has retained her title for two years and with four healthy fellows to cook for, that is commendable. Court. . Lady... It was also decided to have the children's Christmas party on Wednesday, Dec- ember the 17th. October 17th, their son and his wife became the grateful parents of a lovely baby girl. Mr. Morven Hughes, after spending some time in Port Perry hospital and home for awhile, will be moved to Sunnybrook Hospital for expert medical care and attention. We do trust his condition will be arrested and improved. Mr. and Mrs. Hughes have several wonderful neighbours who, have supplied transportation in their time of need. Last Friday, Mrs. Earl Reader attended the dinner and afternoon meeting at Sunderland United. Church, for the retired women teachers of North Durham. About 82 attended. It was a delightful occasion packed full of fun. The Church Service at "Grace" was well attended on Sunday. The parents are co-operating well in getting the children out. Rev. The principal of the school in the town was aware that Indian children sometimes had a rough time at the hands of other students, and to try to forestall this kind of situation, he called in a Human Rights Commission counsellor to talk to the other children. The counsellor asked the children if any of them had ever moved to a new school, and what they thought it would feel like if they were the strangers. In this way he helped them understand how the Indian children would be feeling when they arrived, and the integration proceeded relatively smoothly. Community counselling is one of the major roles of your Ontario Human Rights Commission. We hold seminars and dis- cussions with police in areas where there are communication barriers between them and minority groups, to help relieve ten- sion and promote mutual understanding. fez) n> an People problems can be serious problems. ~ This is what Ontario is doing to help solve them in advance. We attend meetings of immigrants and native-born minority groups to explain to them both their rights under the legislation and their responsibilities as citizens of this Province. We also help bring people into contact with local agencies like home-and-school groups, community and government agen- cies, and churches, which are available to heip but which many people don'teven . know exist. Wherever there's a difficulty based on race, language, colour or creed, the Human Rights Commission is available "~to-generate discussion-and-motivate- mee people to develop understanding and respect for the other's point of view.
