Answering querries about the penitentiary project, Mayor Lawrence Malcolm: told Scugog Ratepayer As- sociation members that he's heard nothing from either the penitentiary service or the federal works people in the past six or seven weeks. At that time, he was told only that prospective sites had been sent to Ottawa for further study. Airport issue still under discussion The Canadian ministry of transport sympathizes with the concern of the Scugog Chamber of Com- merce about the halting of the Pickering Airport, but points out in a letter to the chamber that "it is not pos- sible to continue with such an undertaking without the support of provincial author- ities." The letter points out, however, that talks are con- tinueing. "You may be interested in knowing," the letter addressed to chamber president Richard Drew states, 'that Mr. (Otto) Lang and ministry officials have indeed been meeting with provincial authorities to discuss this whole question."
