#1 Compete in two tournaments On' Saturday, January 17, the Stone Real Estate PeeWee B's travelled to Oakwood to play in a Pee Wee Tournament. After los- ing the first game to Ops 3-0, Port Perry defeated Cann- ington 6-4. Scoring for Port were Wallace, Mikkelson, Healey, Hendrick, Brierly and Bright. In the consol- ation ampionship game they lost 6-3 to Oakwood. Farrell, Fewer and Mikkel- son scored Port Perry's goals in this game. The. following Saturday, the Pee Wee B's played in a tournament held in Port Perry. In the first game against Ux e, they lost 6-2. Goals by ley and Carnochan kept score in a 22 tie until the third period = when Uxbridge scored four quick goals. Reduce speed February 2 Effective Monday, Feb: ruary 2, Ontayio drivers will be expected' to obey lowered speed limits on all freeways and King's Highways, Min- ister of Transportation and Communications James Snow announced today. A new regulation reduced the speed limits on provin- cial freeways from 70 mph to 60 mph and on the King's Highway system from 60 to 55 mph to 50 mph for all vehicles. The only exceptions are freeways now signed at 60 mph which will remain the same, While the regulation for the lower speed limits becomes effective February 1, a Sunday, sign change- overs will begin Monday, February 2. Mr. Snow noted that "the old posted limits will be legal until they are replaced with the new over- lays". Ontario Provincial Police will enforce the regulation lowering the speed limits "as part of their normal enforcement procedures," said Roland Devereux, assis- tant commissioner of the Traffic Division. "We will continue to apply enforcement in areas of high collision experience primar- ily, in an effort to reduce the severity ratio of accidents," he said. . Your patronage will be much appreciated when these young men rap on yoirr door in the near future. RELIGION LIFE BADGES -We had a very special church service on Sunday. Rev. Archie Scott was in charge. Our guests were about 20 Guides and Brow- nies, Cubs and Scouts in uniform with their leaders. - These young people were presented with "Religion in Life" Badges. They earn these badges by going to Church and Sunday School regularly and pertieipating in the service. Mr. Scott gave an illust- rated talk about the flag co-relating it to our lives as Christians. We must have white for purity, blue for forgiveness, red for courage not only physical but mental. Then in the flag is centered a red cross. The cross must be the centre of our life. . The Bethesda Reach W.I. have commenced their needle point classes at the home of Mrs. L. Doble. It looks like fun. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Watson from the West Coast were in the area just in timé for a bit of real old-fashioned Ontario winter. They visited last Monday with Alex's brother, Archie and Mrs. Watson. The offering taken Sunday at the Primary Class dinner is the first donation to our Epsom Church Centennial fund. The Primary Class of Epsom Sunday School did the "Kick Off Project", pro- viding - the .supper and a programme on Sunday even- ing. Some families were unable to help but we had a wonderful time. 'Many pictures were taken as we want to have a scrapbook at the end of the year of all our projects. Old pictures of various times will be asked for. Has anyone seen a picture of the Epsom Band of seventy plus years ago. It was a good band and even won some prizes in competition. The Church was built in 1876 but jpphad a foundation put undeq it and bricked in 1898. would love a picture of the church as it was originally. Epsom-Utica U.C.W. will meet at Epsom Church, Monday 2nd. (Note change of date). Group 2 in charge. On Tuesday, February 3, will be the annual meeting at' Epsom church. Lunch after the meeting which will start at 8 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
