2 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1976 % George Emmerson might this week agree with the old saying 'it pays to adver- tise", after writing out a policy for a man who saw his picture -in the Chamber of Commerce Meet the Mer- chant page in last weeks STAR. A man called their office after seeing his pic- ture saying "he had a nice smile and looked like a good person to do business with'. Police began enforcing two new laws February 1st and now instead of warnings; fines will be issued to of- fenders. The laws, although many do not like them, are aimed at saving lives...so you may as well live with them. Seat belts are now mandatory and speed limits on many roads have been reduced. Notice The STAR would like to announce that com- mencing today, the office will close at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The 6:00 p.m. closing on both Monday and Tuesday will remain the same. We are doing this because of the small amount of traffic into the office between the hours of 5 and 6 during the week. The purpose of the study was to determine the effects that various controls might have on the beef industry such as marketing quotas, import restrictions, regional con- trols within Canada, etc. The base period for the study was the 10 years from 1964 to 1974, and when var- ious control measures were applied to the information taken from the base period, the effects of these controls were measured by com- puter.
