Only 18 seconds into the third period, Schomberg "scored to give them their first lead of the game. At that point it looked as if Schomberg might walk away with their second straight victory. Assists on both goals went to Dave Canning and Darrin Jobb. The next night, Thurs. March 4th, Schomberg travelled back to Port. Schomberg really looked like a threat in the first two minutes of the play as they grabbed a 1-0 lead. They were, out to lunch, the rest of the game as Port whipped them 9-4. Billy Owen led the way with three goals in this game. George Burnett and Darrin Jobb both had a pair of goals. Mike (Turkey) Tobin and Dennis Franssen had the other Port goals. Assists went Canning 5, Dennis Franssen 2, George Burnett 2, John Robertson 1, Mark Cleve- land 1, Hal Storry 1 and Darrin Jobb 1. The Big Red Machine now travelled back to Schomberg for one of the best games of the year. In this hard-hitting per- formance, Port came out the winners with a 3-1 score. Wilt Fellows led the offense with two goals, and Ray Gibson held the defense with superb goaltending. The first goal came from a beautiful setup from Mike Tobin. While being hit, Mike managed to pass the puck "out in front of the net where Wilt Fellows rifled it into the net. George Burnett also picked up an assist on that goal. Chas. Brown made it 2-0 on a power play goal at the 13:40 mark of the first period. George Burnett and Billy Owen had the assists. Wilt Fellows got the pretti- est goal of the night as he took a pass from Mike Tobin and Bill Owen in front of the net, and popped it in the top Schom- berg scored once in the third to make a final 3-1 score. The Beare Motor Bantams now move into the semi- finals against St. Georges or Mitchell. Watch for Poster for the next game. Game 2 - PORT 37 ANDERSON 19 In this game, Port had to contend with a six foot five inch Anderson center, but managed to control -him. Port's full cort press forced the Whitby team into numerous mistakes. Scott Wilbur turned in a tremendous defensive game. Scott Kuyt showed some ex- cellent rebounding. - Top scorers were Gord Sim- monds 12, and Wade Oosterman 10. Championship Game PORT 32 UXBRIDGE 16 Both teams had been look- ing forward to playing each- other since November. Port was able to press success- fully and. forced the Ux----- bridge team into making mistakes. Uxbridge had some difficulty in penetrat- ing Port's zone. Port also outer bounded the Uxbridge squad.
