A couple of weeks ago, we had a few representatives from our Quters Club attend a big meet in Kingston where they met represent- atives of other Outers Clubs from all over Durham. They had lots of fun and found it very educational. We would like to thank the other schools for helping to make our stay so enjoyable. Everyone has been very busy working on the three one-act plays which are to be presented Friday and Saturday, March 12th and 13th at the Recreation Centre in Blackstock at 8:30. Admission is: Adults $1.50, High School $1.00, Public School 50c. We have some very interesting plays pre- pared. The Ookpiks are doing a small town comedy "The Thompsons". The Alicats are doing a mystery story "Mr. Snoop is Murder- ed". The Tigers are doing a comedy '"A Cue for Cleo- patra'. On Saturday even- ing the plays are to be judged and awards presented. We have had quite a time gathering props and assembling cosumes, as well as squeezing in as many rehearsels as possible. We hope for a good turn-out to support our efforts. It is a House Competition so the enthusiasm is keen. Come help support good old Cart- wright High! It arouses some very amusing discussions. In spite of the blustery weather on Sunday evening, 20 people from the Scugog Pastoral Charge met with three ministers in Scugog Island Church. After devo- tion, various reports and discussions, Rev. Pogue introduced Rev. Parsons who represents Pastoral Relations in Presbytery. Thereupon Mr. Parsons commended the congrega- tion in view of such favour- able reports. As he spoke of Rev. Pogue's intention of leaving at the end of June, he described our rating with Presbytery and gave names of ministers who are retiring but are interested in Supply. Accordingly the commit- tee in charge met separately and decided upon the next step. You will be informed of this later. Many Island people still ' suffer from unsatisfactory cures for their ills. Among these are included Mrs. John Sweetman, Mrs. Stewart Sweetman, Mr. John Beckett Mr. Claude Parker. Mrs. Alan Carter has recovered from her lengthy siege of the flu germs which seem to seek her out every year. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Don Gerrow who have their first little granddaught- er to claim their attention and joy. The Island people who went to Florida this winter met many of their Ontario and Island friends there. Mrs. Edith Davis was also fortunate in having a south- ern vacation. On Sunday many Island children again found their way back to Sunday School. Rev. Pogue's story for them evolved from a recent event. All children love to build houses of some sort from various materials. Recently a few boys acquired some large packing boxes which they modelled into interest- ing and satisfying arrange- ments. However, the recent storm flattened them and destroyed their labours. Of course this t to mind the Bible story about build- ing on sand. This developed in the realization that many people build their lives on poor foundations and cause hurt to others as well as themselves. Naturally adult sermons are leading up to Easter. After Church, the Sunday School leaders prepared lunch for the scholars and then took them for a skating party at the rink. We thank them very much for their time and consideration. We do have some very dedicated leaders now. Let's encour- age them. We do indeed feel sorry for Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Love in their concern for their daughter and her family- of New Brunswick when they lost their recently renovated farm home with practically all its contents, in a fire last (continued on page 26) bbb iii ee ETE EEE TT DON'S CUSTOM CONCRETE FINISHING Quality Workmanship Basement Floors Garage Floors Patios - Sidewalks Concrete Steps < ? ! : "AEN Free | KX Estimates f - ?
