District A was held on Satur- day, March 13 at 2 p.m. at the Lions Centre in Bow- manville. Port Perry had two entries, Ellen Buller and Allen Coss. They both plac- ed second in the contest. The days are getting long- er and the sun warmer these days as we approach Spring. The calendar shows that Spring officially arrives this . Sunday, March 21, and it is evident that many of natures creatures are pre- paring to wake up from their long winter sleep or make their way back from the sunny south. Recently the black squirrel has not been an uncommon sight and the crows cawing in the early morning air is a welcome sound. The Chamber of Com- merce has announced that this year the former Home Show will be changed and will. now be called the Recreation and Home Show. Attractions from products for the home and cottage to all types of recreational vehicles and products will be on hand for the three day show slated for June 3rd, 4th and 5th-at the Port Perry arena. Chamber members wishing to participate in the show will have first crack at the spaces, so if you are interested in a booth, con- tact Bill Lock, Howard Hall or one of the C of C directors to reserve your spot. Built in about 1885, after the fire, by John Rolph, the store was used by John Doubt as a boot and shoe repair shop in the front, while Mr. Rolph used the rear to make harness. George Stephens went to work for Mr. Doubt in the boot repair shop until he retired and then Mr. Stephens "took over the business and bought the land. Stephens sold the land to Herb Toombs and it was then used as an Insurance office, being sold to John Waldinsperger a few years ago. Since then the property was sold to Howard H who is now in the process of enlarging his furniture store. Theatre buffs will be treated to a variety of plays tonight at the High 'School when the drama club per- form three-one act plays. Anyone is welcome to attend and see the calibre of dramatic talent that is being produced at the school.
