From time to time, we receive inquiries from Port Producers regarding the possiblilty of feeding corn silage to pigs. According to our Swine Specialist, Jim Dalrymple, corn silage is unsuitable for growing pigs; however, dry sows can utilize a certain amount of corn silage in the ration. Research work has been conducted on feeding bred sows and gilts corn silage and indicates favourable results when the silage is fed along with about 1 to 1%. pounds daily of a balanced supplement containing pro- tein, minerals and vitamins. It is often advantageous lo pour about one pound of shelled corn per head daily over the silage when starting the sows or gilts on silage as a way of encourag- ing them to start eating it. Sows and gilts should eat about 10 to 12 pounds of good corn silage per head daily, plus the balanced. supple- ment. * Services CHURCH OF ASCENSION ANGLICAN Rev. R. C. Rose, Minister Hon.
