TIRE Sales & Service MOBILE UNIT FARM TIRE SPECIALISTS 985-3042 RI Sole That's Paula Lishman of Blackstock in the middle, taking part in the official opening of the C.N. Tower, Friday. Paula, 6 feet, 3'4 inches is flanked by seven-feet tall Roger Tickner (left), Finance Minister Donald MacDonald, 6 feet, 5 inches, and the world's tallest free-standing clown. Paula helped Tickner and MacDonald switch on the lights that flooded the world's tallest free-standing structure as the clock reached midnight. Paula Lishman tallest female: HRDINA PHOTO Takes part in CN tower opening by Bill Lishman The CN tower opened to the public Friday night at 12:01, Saturday morning to be exact and 1 was there dining and sipping cham- pagne with thirty or so of the CN"s top brass in a revolving olympian world, overlooking a large glittering portion of Ontario. I was there for no other reason than my wife is six foot three and abit. She was part of the CN's public relations plan to have the tallest free standing male and female from the Toronto area, with the Federal Government's tallest cabinet minister who officially open the world's tallest free stand- ing building. A tall tale to say the least! It also co-incided with our 8th wedding anniversary. To me it was an unreal happening. 1 had to keep pinching myself to keep some sense of reality. But for Paula it was even more thrilling. A housewife from Purple Hill, mother of two young kids being zapped into the lime light in her chauffer driven Rolls-Royce, complete with police escort. The door was opened for her by Canadas Minister of Finance (that day we had been argu- ing about the $40 grocery budget)a marching band playing in the background while a clown on stilts waver- ed in front of the entrance. Stacatto flashes from photographers, movie cameras and a microphone thrust everywhere. Paula, who had been given ticket 0002, turned a switch which lit up the entrance bridge to the tower. Rodget Ticnon, the tall male at 7°1* lit the base of the tower, then the entourage flashed up the elevator to the observation deck. Donald Mcdonald illuminated the rest of the tower while a fantastic show of fireworks errupted from Harbour Front somewhere beneath us. I stood fascinated, looking down at' the crowd around the entrance. They had the appearance of a swarm of bees trying to get into the hive. Then Bob Bancleen, CN's president was shaking my hand and saying with a smile, some party we threw for your anniversary eh? Paula was still talking into microphones, I'd never seen her look better. Gradually the party wound down more hand shakes, lots of talk, then we were back in our volkswagen, one of the bees looking back at Mount Olympus and we couldn't wipe the smiles off our faces.
