6 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, June 30, 1976 Legion holds award night Branch 419, Royal Canadjan Legion held its honours and Awards Night at the Legion Hall in Port Perry last Saturday night and pre- sented members with their pins for up to 35 years of faithful service to the club. Head table guests were piped in the Legion's official piper, Bill Hopkins, and among those present for the evening was Deputy Zone Commander Hank = Prysky who gave an informative talk on the Legions new pro- gramme, known as "Oper- ation Service". Mr. Prysky said that this programme was the most important one ever under- taken by the Legion, and it would require a lot of co- operation and help from the members to make it work. The aim is to seek out and find the more than 2 million veterans and their depen- dents that have lost touch with the legion and let them know of the assistance that is available to them through the organization. A blitz to find these people will be held beginning on October 2nd and will appropriately end on Nov- ember 11th: A standing ovation was given to Bob Elliott when president Jack Lee announc- ed that Bob had won the Dominion level of the essay contest sponsored by the Legion. Bob thanked the Legion and its members for making it possible and said that it was a thrill and an honour for not only himself but also for his father. Clugston, Cartwright band ends busy, enjoyable season The Cartwright Band has just finished a very enjoyable and busy season. They are a group of 17 students, rang- ing from ages 8-14, under the guidance of Mrs. Erika Kiezebrink. Some of us have been playing for 3 years now, practising at noon-hours and after school. Our band members are as follows: Flutes - Sandra Little, Patti Fee, Jackie Lafontaine and Judy Ayer. Clarinets - Leanne Van Camp, Melanie Williams and Joy Johnston. Trumpets - Richard Ayer, Todd Bartley and John Green French horns - Alan Fergu- son and Jane Davies. Bari- tone - Erik Kiezebrink. Tuba - Donald Fee. We have been busy this year playing for many diffe- rent occasions such as the Bethany Rememberance Day service, Senior Citizens, United Church, Anglican Church, Port Perry Nursing Home, Grade 4 concert, Open House and Prince Albert School. We ended the year with a party.
