Katherine Maude Cawker After an illness of two months, Katherine Maude -Cawker passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 1976. Born in Reach Township, September 10, 1884, the daughter of Jane McGregor and Chester Asling, the family moved to Epsom in 1887. She married Wilfred Clarence Coates of Orillia in "1904 who predeceased her. On September 10, 1944 she was united in 'marriage to William Weston Cawker. | A humble Christian women, she spent much of her time helping others and loved all living things especially children and flowers. . Left to mourn her loss are one son, Harold of Peter- borough, three daughters, Jean (Mrs. G. Jeffery, Epsom; Norine (Mrs. A. Thornton, Port Perry; and Isabelle (Mrs. E. Wrathall) of Port Hope. Two brothers William and Allen Asling, one' sister Mary (Mrs. T. Sager) predeceased her. She' was blessed with 10 grand- children and twenty great- grandchildren. uneral services were held on August 7 at 3:30 p.m. from Low and Low Funeral Home, Uxbridge with Rev. Sweetman A local resident of Scugog Island and Port Perry all his life, Stewart McDermott Sweetman died suddenly at + Scugog Island August 7, 1976 of a heart attack. He was 67. years of age. Born in Toronto, May 28, 1909, son of the late 'Arthur Sweetman and Ellen (Mec- Dermott) Sweetman, he moved with his family -to Scugog Island at an early age. He married the former Mary Carter in 1931 and they celebrated 45 years of marr- iage this year. They lived on Scugog Island then moved to Port Perry in 1942. He went into the trucking business in 1931 and pro- gressed into the cartage bus- iness which he sold in 1948. He drove bus for DeNure Bus Lines until 1953 when he started his own garage busi- ness and became a V.W. Dealer and on later to a Chrysler Dealer for the area. He sold his business in 1969 and retired on Scugog Island where he had built his own retirement home. He was a member of Fide- lity Lodge 428 in Port Perry and an active member of Succoth Chapter R.A.M. 135 Uxbridge for 23 years and was Past Principle. He was prede- ceased by one sister Mrs. Blanche Prentice and two brothers Herbert and Amasa. Mr. Sweetman rested at McDermott-Panabaker Funeral Home and service was held on Tuesday, August 10, 1976 at 2 p.m. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemet- ery, Prince Albert. Rever- end Robert Brawn officiated. Pallbearers were friends Jack Burnham, Allan Bond, Len Hance, Carl Gimmlett, Ted Croxall and William Morgan. Alma Fowler At Port Perry Memorial Hospital on August 6, 1976, Alma Fowler passed away after several months of heart illness, in her 94th year. Born in Manvers Township on- December 22, 1882, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Holmes. She was united in marri- age with George N. Fowler in December 1905. Her husband predeceased her in December 1945. Mrs. Fowler was a member of the Blackstock United Church, the L.0.B.A. and United Church Women. Left to mourn her passing is Helen (Mrs. George Rutherford) Seagrave). Pre- deceased by daughter Georgina, one brother and two sisters. Also left to mourn her loss are grandchildren Allan and Diane, great grandchildren Danielle, Jacon, Rebecca, Jennifer and Jessica. Service was held on August 9, 1976 from the McDermott-Panabaker Fun- eral Home with interment at Cadmus Union Cemetery. Rev. V. Parsons officiated.
