Books being delivered Bell Canada is adding color to its directory this year, Warren Turnham, Bell Canada manager for the area, said today. "For the first time, an eight-page color supplement has been inserted in the directory to provide custom- ers with a convenient guide to several styles and colors of phones for both the home- owner and small business- man", he explained. Cover of the new Regional Municipality of Durham dir- ectory is a mosaic of more than 100 small color photo- graphs depicting different aspects of life in Ontario. Delivery of the new direct- ory begins August 25 and will end about September 9. Some 118,819 books are being distributed this year to customers listed in the phone book, compared to 111,774 last year. Bell Canada is again distri- buting only one telephone book per household, to con- serve natural resources, re- duce pollution and save money, Mr. Turnham said. Those' who require an extra book, can phone at 579-4301. Mr. Turnham also said customers will find the intro- ductory information pages of great assistance. 'For in- stance, there is a page of helpful hints on how to find numbers readily in the white pages and another on finding government listings alpha- betically," he said. The champion cake made by Trish Sleep was sold by auction with C.F.R.B.'s Bill Deegan for $40.00 to Keith Goble and Jim Leatherdale. At this point Mrs. Deegan was called to the stand and Bill and Leila were present- ed with a beautifully decor- ated home-baked cake to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Glenn Larmer directed the large crowd in BU SALES & (TRONIOS Sales & Service singing Happy Anniversary to mark the occasion. Later in the day, Cliff Pethick, auctioned off the Champion market steer for 53 cents a 1b to Arnott Wotten and Keith Goble on behalf of the U.C.0. The market steer was owned by E.L.Mc- Laughlin. Cliff Pethick also acted as the M.C. for the milking con- test which proved to be as much fun as ever. Winner was Bill Newman, with Allan Lawrence in .second spot, Bill Deegan third and Billy the Clown in fourth stall. After such a successful day, it was not surprising that the Fair ended up in grand style with two very fine dances - in the Recrea- tion Centre many enjoyed the fine music of Earl Brown of Oshawa and the Arena rang out with the sounds of Rampage. The Ministry of Labour representatives .- should have been there - our arena surely could be deem- ed safe after withstanding these sounds of modern music. In all respects, the 111th Blackstock Fair goes down into history as one of the very best. STAR reprints call 985-7383 TV - STEREOS - CB RADIOS Specials SERVICE ROYCE C.B.
