Nineteen pounds in nine- teen Minutes was the record set by The Right Honourable John G. Diefenbaker..on The Salmon River in New Bruns- wick..August 1st.. Mr. Dief- enbanker and Joel Aldred of Scugog Island, were fishing side by side when the Chief had the strike. Both were guest of Mitchell Franklin, a prominent Martime busi- nessman. Mr. Franklin had arranged for both to fish at the spot where the late Presi- Nineteen pounder for the Chief. dent Herbert Hoover had fished for many years. It is believed that President Hoover landed one just over eighteen pounds around the same date in 1932. Joel has arranged for the Trophy fish. to be mounted..and it will shortly be hanging in the Diefenbaker offices, Parlia- ment Buildings, Ottawa. The Chief was heard to say "there may be bigger fish in Ottawa..but darn few have the fight that this one had". The Lumbermen are now waiting for a winner between Brace- bridge and Port Elgin in the northern 0.A.S.A. zone. It is quite possible that the local club may be travelling this weekend to start this series but a winner or dates of the games will not be known until Thursday or Friday. Lumbermen 3 - Claremont 2 The Lumbermen defeated a "scrappy" Claremont team on Tuesday night be- cause of the great pitching of Ken Goreski and a strong defensive showing by the en- tire team. Goreski allowed the Claremont team five hits while striking out nine, but his pitching performance was excellent when he pitch- ed out of three innings with runners in scoring position. Grant Norton started the game for Claremont and allowed only one bunt single in seven innings but he tired in the seventh inning and was replaced by Keith Lew: is. Lewis gave up all three runs but his team mates offered little help as they allowed five errors in the last three innings. Doug Christie had two singles in the con- test, one big hit in the tenth inning that lead to the winn- ing run. In the first game Ken Goreski continued his find pitching as he "scattered" six hits and allowed only two runs to earn the win. The Lumbermen wrapped up this game with a 3 run fifth inning on consecutive hits by Brent Heard, Jody Williams, Steve Cochrane and Ken Goreski. Jody Williams had three solid singles in this contest to lead the team. Lumbermen 4 - Whitby 1 Bill Michell recorded his fourth win in row as he struck out ten Whitby batters and allowed six hits. The big inning of work for Michell came in the fourth as he leaded the bases on a walk, a hit and an error, but he then proceeded to strike out the side and preserve the win. Doug Christie, Steve Coch- rane, Laurie Williams, Rick Beare, all had hits off losing pitcher Tom Buksa. The next action for the Lumbermen will be on Thursday night when they face the Markham Aces in a very important double head- er at the local park, game time for these two games will be 7:30 p.m. Three successive wins for Lumbermen - "This doubleheader will finish the schedule for the Lumbermen and could "tell the tale" if they are to make the play-offs. i GOING OVERSEAS PASSPORT PHOTO Contact Peter Hvidsten CCM Ladies Elite Touring - 5 speed CCM Men Elite Touring - 5 speed CCM Mens Elan Touring - 3 speed CCM Junior Apache Touring - Coaster Boys ° CCM Junior Flair Touring - Coaster Girls CCM Juvenile Ranger Touring - Coaster Boys CCM Boys Mustang Touring - Coaster Boys CCM Boys Futura - 3 speed CCM Boys Pursuit - 3 speed racer Sekine Boys & Mens SHC270 - 10 speed racer LeJune Boys & Mens - 10 speed racers Norco Boys & Mens Eliminator - 10 speed racer Norco Boys Eliminator - 3 speed racer Norco Boys Hi Rise Coasters Norco Girls Hi Rise Coasters .
