'Student enrolment last year was 106, but by June, 94 students were still in school. Ninety-six students enrolled at Blackstock this year. One school official felt all "indications showed that stu- dent enrolment would in- crease during the year. "It was the busiest year for "transfers in and out of this school last year," she said, "and from all the houses going up around here, I'd say we're in for another year of the same." . Provincially, the educa- tion 'field will have fewer students to teach over the next few years. Declining birth rates will result in Ontario's school population decreasing by more than 200,000 in the next 10 years. : The latest Ministry enrol- ment projections, released last week by Education Min- 'ister Thomas Wells, indicate that elementary school en- rolment will drop by 105,000 during the next 10 years. The elementary school pop- ulation will drop from the 1,389,478 of last year to a low of 1,253,321 in 1981 and rise to 1,283,829 in 1985. During the same period secondary school enrolment will decrease by 106,000, _ from the 1975 total of 605,160 to a projected 499,138 in 1985. The secondary school enrol- ment will peak at 611,198 next year and then decline. The. enrolment decline at the elementary school level will be felt both in the public and separate schools. The projections indicate that in the public schools the enrol- ment will drop by 76,474, from the 1975 total of 961,625 to 885,151. In the separate schools the enrolment will - drop by 29,175, from the total of 427,853 of last year to 398,678 in 1985. "Mr. Wells said the projec- tions have been sent to school board officials across the province to assist them in their long range planning.
