PORT Port Perry Midgets tra- veled to Ottawa to partici- pate in a seven team Double Knock Out Tournament. They faced Picton the first game to defeat them 3-1 in ten innings in a close fought game as Port lead one to nothing until the seventh when Picton tied the game to putitin extra innings. Kevin Walker had the pitching duties for the first seven innings until the team put Kevin in trouble. Larry Elson relieved Walker to pull Port out of the inning by striking out the third batter and 6 more in the 8, 9 and 10th innings. Port scored 2 runs in the top of the 10th to win the first game. Walker striking out six, allowing 5 hits with one team error. Pitching for Picton was Wayne Armstrong allowing 6 hits, striking: out 8 Port Perry batters with 3 team errors. Second Game Ports second game was against New Liskeard and they were defeated 2-1. Port just couldn't get things going. Kevin Walker started again and ran into trouble in the early part of the game and was relieved by Elson. Fifth Game Ports fifth game and the third of that day was against Grimsby. The loser of this game was sure of a medal but Port wasn't satisfied with just a bronze. Owen Sound with a 3-0 record and Port Perry with a 4-1. This is what both teams were waiting for and it showed. Everybody was on edge for the whole game. Both teams played excellent ball as it went 11 innings. It was a pitchers duel. Larry Elson pitching for Port and Bard Underwood for Owen Sound. For Elson it was his fourth game of the day and nobody would of known, He struck out 22 batters and allowed 1 hit with 5 team errors. For Underwood, he struck out 19 Port Perry batters, allowed 3 hits with 3 team errors. -contributed Snowmobilers plan season by Zoe Rohrer The first sure sign that summer is over came Sun- day evening with the first general membership meet- ing of the Port Perry Snow- mobile Club: It was a busy day for club members with a baseball game in the afternoon against the Cartwright Dyno's Snowmobile Club and a pot luck supper before the meeting. The club has been very active all summer. A camp out was held at Lakehead Park. The July picnic at Poplar Park was very well attended and there were two baseball games and a corn roast to keep club members together through- out the summer months. At Sunday's meeting, reports were received from each committee. Plans are being made for this years snowmobile trails. Tickets are now on sale for the up-coming dance at Club Annrene. The draw for the 1977 Skidoo and trailer will be made at this dance. The newsletter from the Ontario Federation of Snow- mobile Clubs was read. It discussed the proposed Driver Training Program and government financing for Snowmobile Clubs. A report was given from the Central Ontario Regional Snowmobile Club. C.0.R.S.A is sponsoring"Grass Drag Races' on Sunday October 17 beside Utica Farm Equip- ment. The big news for the Port Perry Snowmobile Club is the up-coming Snow Show, September 24, 25 and 26 in the arena. Richmond Hill defeat Midgets - This past Wednesday, the Port Perry Midgets were defeated by Richmond Hill 4-2, Port came out fighting in the first inning by getting a two run lead. But that was it. 'The team only had two games; one they lost, one won. i Tuesday past the Mal- mont Farms team played the team from Utica. The game really meant nothing as most of the play-off slots had been decided. The Malmont Farms team won 7-2, On Last Sunday though, a critical game in the Malmont Farms season was played in Odessa. to leave the team flat and they dropped 'a 4-0 game, The' Malmont Farms team has a very good chance of defeating this team when they make the return trip to-night (Wednesday) at 8:45 p.m. The team should be able to have all its regulars back. in the line-up.
