SEREAS EIU MOBS AFELANES E1039 V 0 BA DPN FF TEN 14 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- WED., SEPT. 29, 1976 BRAT IVAANY Aree d Oh Sali ne SUR NEWS FROM THE SCHOOLS: Cartwright, Port Perry, Cornish CARTWRIGHT H.S. By Carol Rushton As I settled down to write out this week's adventures, | was confronted by two visit- ors who were very dis- appointed at pot having seen their names in last week's article. One was the ring- master from our Auction Sale and 'the other, was the auctioneer. The ring master did an excellent job of lead- ing around. the slaves, and pointing out all their out- standing features. The auctioneer made it an auction to remember. He had us all laughing so hard we could hardly stand up. So guys, here are your names (a week late maybe, but I don't think they've changed any). auctioneer - "Harold Wright" and ring master "Blair Graham". We thank you for contributing to this annual event. Now, the surprise of the week! We have new lights in the library. Isn't that neat? Now we can read the black- board on cloudy days. For our spectacular Fall Phenomenum, two lucky students from the school will be taking the Driver's Edu- cation Course! Wow! Time to see if we 'really can remember where our keys are. Keep your eyes open for new drivers, eh folks? We wouldn't want you to get hurt, you know. The Outers are still getting ready for that canoe trip and I hope they all enjoy them- selves. Kids, may the Black Bear's not give you fleas. Off to canoe, Where the water is blue (or brown), And the Bears and the Rattlesnakes play; Where never is heard Encouraging word, And the currents against you all day. Have fun and take care! Our Glee Club is planning to gather itself together one of these days, as commence- ment isn't too far off. Last I hear though, the songs were still not chosen," Glee Clubs seem to get a weird reputat- ion, due to the fact that some people still think a Glee Club is made up of people who run around shouting, "Glee, Glee!":- They save that for the last day of school. When they get to- gether, they sing. For a definition of "sing", go ask your mother. A stir is in the hall, a hush is in the room (any relation toa VanCamp?). The mess- age we've all been craneing our little ears to hear has finally arrived! The Ottawa trip will be scheduled for, (apple roll in the back ground) October 14, 1976. And with the crash of a falling cough drop, we hear the voices of tiny mouths mumblin, "Heck, I could have told you that". So much for mystery, how about the 'Fun Stuff"? A while ago we had some- thing we call "Tabloid". This event consists of things G & SDISCOUNT VARIETYMART PORT PERRY PLAZA - PORT PERRY - ONTARIO PHONE 985-3322 Sale Effective September 29 to October 4. This was part of our house-league competitions, and we all stood our there in the rain "Hurrays" for our house leagues. And who "won? I hear you ask. It was the (orange roll in the back- ground, we lost the apple). Alicats! Followed by Ook- picks, and tailed by the Tigers. To show we're all good sports, we would like to congratulate the Alicats for their skill and luck. The odd horse runs better on a muddy track, (or would you believe a slippery' football field?). . Speaking of horses, when you slide into second base, you really "Slide". Thanks. Well, the remedial teach- ers are working again, this time though, with a new crew, It looks good. One question though. When teaching a pair of identical twins, is it "cheating" to pin name tags on them? Our school is finally gett- ing school jackets, They're going to be winter jackets. Better get them before the snow flies, kids, and with temperatures like this, that's probably not too far off. Picture time is only hours . away. Have you got clean teeth? The usual warnings are heard being muttered about the halls, "don't blink" and watch out for 'ring around the collar". A bottle drive, Friday, October 1st. PORT PERRY HIGH SCHOOL By Georgina Kemp Now that our school year has got under way, many clubs, events, and commit- tees have been formed. Last Thursday and Friday were declared English Days; and were celebrated in a very regressive manner. The theme brought us back to our Nursery Rhyme and Dick and Jane Reader days. Enthusiastic students and teachers dressed in their version of their favorite Nursery Rhyme charactor. Mrs. Lackie awed her classes, dressed as the Queen of Hearts (who could eat no tarts) when she pass- ed out butter tarts while reciting the poem. Skipping relays, tricycle races-as well as sucker sales (raising $80.00 towards the yearbook) put many of us back to our primary days. -just as successful. Our newly formed Junior Football 'team (the first in several years) got off to a great start last Wednesday. With all round team effort and the cheerleaders support they creamed Donovan 33-0! Hopefully, with the support of our Spirit Club, our Girls' Junior and Senior Basket- ball, our soccer, and our Cross Country teams, will be Try to make it to the next game, and cheer your school on. The School Laughing teams will get off to a roaring start with such prac- ticed veterans as Barb Bell and Héisty (Rick) Van Weston, The winning team will earn a spot on the Official Laughing Award - plaque.
