Atoms win one game, lose one On Friday night at home the Port Perry Malmont Farms Atoms scored a 3-2 exhibition win over the visiting Lindsay Atoms. 'Lindsay actually opened up the scoring early in the first period. Port Perry tied the game at 1-1 late in the first. Kevin Ferguson after receiving a pass from Steven Lee skated out df the corner and tucked the Buck behind the Lindsay net- minder. With 47. seconds left in the first period Port Perry had secured a 2-1 lead on a goal by Howard Lee assisted by Mike Pratt. Lindsay tied the game up at 2-2 early in the second period. There were some good scoring chances on both sides but the score remained tied at the end of two periods. The Port Perry team played a fine third period. Their passing and positional play showed much improve- ment. The winning goal was scored about half way through the third as Kevin Novice lose (continued breakaway by Jim White. Early in the third period Port tied the score when Jim Abraham again found the net White. Port dominated play until late in the period when the Black Hawks scored the winning goal from a scramble in front of thé net. The Port team all /played well with some good/skating and hard checking. This team should do well this season. assisted by Jim. Sportsi.and Fowler took a 'perfect pass from Ferguson. and slapped it into the Lindsay net. Paul Bateman and Paul Goreski played well in goal to secure the win. Saturday evening in a league game in Port Hope the Atoms suffered a 5-3 loss. Port Perry opened the scoring on a goal by Darren Desautles assisted by Ian Dickson. Port Hope tied the game up late in the first period. In the second period the Port Perry Atoms played some strong hockey. Kevin Ferguson scored on a nice pass from Kevin Fowler to put Port ahead 2-1. Two minutes later the Atoms went ahead 3-1 as Howard Lee scored with a perfect shot after taking a pass from Jeff Johnstone. At this stage the Atoms seemed to have the game well in control. But with exactly one second left in the second period Port Hope scored and the game was suddenly 3-2. From toHampton Mersco Novice lineup: Brian Treen, goal. In that important third period the Port Perry Atoms were handed three straight penalties. But along with this the Atoms passing and positional play was very inconsistent.
