i SP AN iC RL IE dr PR Len BY 20 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1976 High scoring win and loss for Flamingos Andrea Jones The Flamingos scored six goals against the Stouffville Clippers on Saturday night (thats the good part). The bad part is that those same Flamingos gave up ten! Blunders by the defence and generally inept goal- tending combined to make it look easy for the Clippers. Port Perry fell behind 2-0 after the first but tied it early in the second on goals by Gord Scott, in neat play from Larry Page and Dave Webster, and Webster in a solo effort. Then the roof fell in. The Clippers fired seven goals; pushing the forwards off the puck (when they could manage to get it) and making/ the defense look sick. Ijittle's effort between the pi did = nothing to inspire anyone up front, stopping only nine of sixteen shots in the period. Doug Christie was ailing with the flue and finally had to quit. Coach Dave Nicho- lishen, needing a forward (also a defense and a goalie) moved Evans up front and returned Malcom to a regular shift on defense. ~ That move showed a little ~light at the end of the tunnel when Malcolm's shot from the point was tipped by Evans and then John Scott, to score. Stouffville scored again early in the third period and with a 10-3 lead could afford do a little coasting. It cost them three goals as the Flamingos tried to redeem themselves. Phil Hennessey tallied on a pass from Sandy Camer- on, Gord Scott clicked again as Page handed him a back- hand pass just inside the blueline, with Webster also drawing an assist and John Scott scored his second of the night by tipping in a shot by Steve Jones. Anyone who watched last Saturdays game in Stouff- ville and then the home game on Sunday against Lindsay, would find it hard to believe that they were watching the same Flamin- go team. The boys from Port Perry trounced Lind- say Trent Muskies 12-6. The Flamingos controlled the puck in every period and were especially good while killing penalties. Goalie Scott Little did an outstanding job, coming up with some super saves when they needed him. Dave Webster opened the scoring for the Flamingos "picking the corner neatly. Less than a minute later Bob "Low" Sinclair stole the puck off the stick of a Lindsay Player as they tried to move it out." His shot hit just under the top cross-bar. Sinclair shook off three Muskies to score his second of the night with an assist from Rob Evans and the Flamingos led 3-0. Lindsay scored at the end of the first and in the early minutes of the second on goals by Lewis and Ingram, but as in the Stouffville game the second period was the damaging one. In this case it was Lindsay that took the beating. Flamingos scored five times on goals by Sandy Cameron with back-to-back tallies; Larry' Page from Hennessey and Thornbury; Doug . Christie on a hard drive from the boards and Steve Jones blasting one in from the point. The first three shots in the period by Flamingos on Hickson resulted in goals. With an 8-2 lead the Fla- mingos copied the Clippers and relaxed in the third period. The Muskies took advantage and scored four times, but Port Perry matched their scoring to put the game out of reach. Phil Hennessey counted his 3rd: point of the game and -his first goal by being in the right spot as Camer- on passed out in front. Gord Scott also had a good night with twin goals and Doug Christie who was obviously feeling better scored number two, unassis- ted. Scott Little worked hard for the win facing 31 shots to Hicksons 39, - John Kane was steady .on defense, picking up two assists and Rob VanCamp had two good games this weekend handing out some stiff checks and handling the puck confidently.
