5» conservation authority The region's planning and development committee last week endorsed the Township of -Scugog's- wish to come under the jurisdiction of the Central Lake Ontario Con- servation Authority. Scugog has, on numerous occasions, endorsed the in- auguration of the Scugog "Region Conservation Author- ity, but the province continu- ed to balk at the establish- ment of a new authority. Scugog Township and the Lindsay area are the only districts in central Ontario that are not under the juris- diction of a conservation authority. As well as' setting up a Scugog authority, there has also been efforts in the past to initiate talks with munici- palities in the Lindsay area. But council felt that CLOCA should be asked to expand into the township because that's the body they've been paying taxes to. Scugog taxpayers current- ly support tour conservation authorities through their taxes (through their regional taxes), but not one of these bodies covers the Lake Scugog arga, The authority has already - indicated it would be. willing - to expand into this area, with the extended. boundaries reaching into parts of Mari- posa township and encom- pass the lake area. The planning committee decided to strike one of the staff's recommendations in regard to the establishment of the Scugog Region Con- servation Authority. "I would prefer to pay taxes to the four authorities rather than five," said Scu- gog Mayor Lawrence Malcolm. He pointed out that they have already contacted the. ministry of natural resour- ces on two occasions about this matter, but said that the ministry has "slowed us down' each time. High School Report: Term reports approaching by Sheila O'Reilly Another week has passed us at Port Perry High School. The pressure is being put on both students and teachers however, as this term's reports are soon approaching. With all our time being put into studying to 'better' our efforts we still find time to enjoy the social aspect of school life. Our second dance last Thursday featuring 'Wed- nesday' was a great success. Orders are being taken for school rings, rugger CONTINUOUS FORMS available at the Port Perry Star 985-7383 shirts, hat and scarf sets and various other articles, hopefully to be here in time for Christmas. Our senior girl's basket- bal] team beat Bowmanville by a tight score of 20-17. The junior team also made an excellent showing with a victorious score of 40-26. Port High's next theme week honouring the Home Ec department will be the week of November 15th to 19th. This week will consist of such activities as a cake bake off and a utensil day.
