Bidgood read the minutes plus correspon- "dence and generous dona- tion for which we say aby you. Mrs. T. Hodgins submit- ted financial figures, The president voiced that Mrs. C. Reid had sent away the 17 pound bale. to Africa. Mrs. S. Lindsay reported mainly eight cards plus a few gifts of various types. * Tentative plans are in the making regarding dessert luncheon booked for May 18 at which Reids Florists will illustrate flower arranging. A most satisfying lunch was served by Mrs. C. Chambers, Mrs. Sewer charge relief in sight Relief is in sight for the residents of Durham Region who have been concerned about the recent increases in water and sewer charges. I am pleased to announce that, after lengthy discus- sion between the Province and the Region of Durham, the Minister of Housing has agreed to an extension of the time set for repayment of the Region's OHAP Servic- ing loan. Recognizing the present - need in "Durham, 'Mr. - Rhodes has agreed that the loan will be repayable in five years instead of the original three years. Jr. Farmers attend conference Three hundred and fifty Junior Farmers from across Ontario represented 8,000 members at the Junior Farmer Annual Meeting and Provincial Conference at the Prince Hotel in Toronto, March 18 and 19. Representing Ontario county Junior Farmers was Bob Stone, R. R. 5, Sunder- land, and Lisa Puckrin of R.R.4, Sunderland, both members of the Port Perry Club. This year's conference looked at the role of "Youth in Society'. With a series of speakers talking on young people's roles in education, energy conservation, con- sumer law, human kinetics and the family unit, dele- gates broadened their view of what their roles could be in our society. During the Annual Ban- quet, Saturday night, Pro- vincial Directors for 1977 were installed including George Hewitt, Beaverton, Provincial Director for Ontario County. Pounds are sneaky. We hope we haven't total- ly lost the C. Reid family who have moved to Port Perry where we do trust they will enjoy their home and surroundings. The C. Loves, Mac Christies, R. Grahams, and H. Geers are all home 'from Florida temperatures. Mr. and Mrs. H. Jeffrey accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Mac Christie and daughter to Kingston where Lynn: remained for her studies at the University. Mr. and Mrs. Les Beacock enjoyed last week in New Liskeard with their son and wife Mr. and Mrs. Grant Beacock. Mr. and Mrs. Laxton and children of North Bay have visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. C. Postill, Mr. and Mrs. F. Dayes, Blackstock, were with their daughter Mr. and Mrs. C. + Andrews and family. Thought: "A happy marriage is the union of two forgivers" - W. Potter, Scugog Island news (continued) community Hall to welcome the newlyweds, Debbie and John Davis and Marilyn and Tom Redman and present gifts and best wishes. The evening was spent in danc- ing and cards. Some of the guests hadn't seen the Hall for many years and were pleasantly surprised to see the many changes and improvements, Jim and Jan Gerrow with little daughter spent the weekend at the parental. -home, RX On Sunday Rev. Linstead had a very interesting and unusual story regarding an age old custom of paying rent for two pieces of land in England. The story was to illustrate that we should pay rent to God for His world. Our rent would be in forms of Service to Him. Perhaps, by next Sunday Rev. Clarke will have returned from his vacation. Easter Services will be planned. The Junior Choir on the Island will have practice this Thursday and again next week. Don't forget your items for the Art and Craft show April 12.
