Both Junior and Senior Choir sang beautifully under the cap- able direction of Mrs. Bob Kyte at the Organ and Miss Caroline Carnaghan at the piano. Mrs. Judi Mountjoy directed the Junior Choir. Both choirs were adorned in their new choir gowns dona- ted by the Blackstock U.C.W. During the service Rev. V. Parsons dedicated the new gowns and as a special request Janet Parsons sang "The Holy City" in memory of Mrs. W.W. VanCamp. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Dowson and Andrew of Port Elgin spent Easter weekend with. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Thompson. Camp and Paul and Mr. and Mrs. Harry VanCamp en- joyed Easter dinner at - Haugen's. Chicken Barbecue at Manchester. Mr, Ray Larmer and Mrs. Glenn Gibson were Friday callers of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Larmer. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Saywell of Oshawa and Mdme. Justice VanCamp were Sunday dinner guests of Mr, and Mrs, Ted Kemp and Jeffery and Mr. Jack VanCamp, A family gathering was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Percy VanCamp and Aileen on Sunday in honour of Mr. VanCamp's birthday. Barb Byers opened our worship with the poem 'One Solitary. Life"; She continu- ed with a scripture and lesson based on the Easter theme. Joanne Lee began . the program with a short talk about Legrosy. A small brochure published by the Legrosy Mission stress- es that misunderstanding and rejection are almost worse to experience than the disease. A short story was read and slides were shown to familiarize us with the disease and its treat- ment. Our collection from this meeting is to be sent to the Legrosy Mission. Ruby VanCamp showed slides on the topic of "Stewardship in the Church". : Men's Curling Banquet The annual Men's Curling Banquet was well attended on Saturday evening April 9th. The banquet opened with the singing of "0 Can-. ada" a Toast to the Queen and a Prayer by Rev. V. Parsons. The dinner was served by the U.C.W. and the ladies were thanked by Merle Van Camp for the delicious dinner. The Merlin Suggitt trophy for first prize in the Men's Bonspiel was present- ed by Merlin Suggitt to the High School Team - Paul Larmer, Colin Asselstine, Jack Gunter and Blair Graham. Second prize presented by Floyd Argue to Vern _Asselstine, Roy Werry, Bill Thompson and Roy Pearson. Merle Van Camp presented third prize to Cam Porter, Keith Van- Camp, Roger Porter and Ken Crawford. Fourth prize was presented by Roy McLaughlin to Ernie Swain, Richard VanCamp, Ted Kemp and Dalton Dorrell. Mixed Bonspeil Trophy donated and presented by Gerald Kelly went to Herb Swain, Elaine Bailey, Neil Werry and Carol Mairs, Roy McLaughlin presented the Cyring Towel to Bob Fletcher. Joyce Kelly thanked Boh Strong for a job well done as caretaker and presented him with a gift. Chicken draws were won by Brian Mountjoy, Floyd Asselstine, Harold Swain, Richard VanCamp, Walter Wright, Ted Kemp, Roy - Pearson, Jim Swain, Cam Porter, Floyd Argue and Terry Malcolm, * An evening of bingo and cards brought the enjoyable evening to a close. _ Blackstock W.I. At 12:30 p.m. on Wednes- day, April 6th, members of the Blackstock Women's Institute gathered in the Community Hall for their meeting which began with an extra good pot luck dinner. About 1:30 'the meeting properly opened with the Ode and collection. Mrs. Shortridge read a poem - The Garden. - Roll Call was answered by fees for 77-78 from 16 ladies. Minutes were read. and approved, also treasurers report which' gave a healthy balance to begin the new term." The cook books are nearly all sold and have been a big boost to the bank balance. Although somewhat belated, a motion was made and carried to send $10.00 to the J vv Institute Community Hospital, Port Perry, in memory of Mrs. Francis Mountjoy who for many years was. a valued member. At this time a caretaker for the Memorial Park is needed: This is one of the main projects of the Institute so it is hoped a suitable person may be gotten. Correspondence read by the Secretary. Achievement Day will be held in the:public- school on Saturday, May. 23rd. Visit- ors are invited to attend for the afternoon session at 1:30 pm. Three quilts have been quilted with at least two more to do. The members are most grateful to the ladies other than members who have come and helped. Thank you ladies!
