In the first game of the tournament, the local gang were pitted against Kirks Spur Canadiens. For the first period and a half the opponents controlled the play probably due to the local gang having not play- ed a game in two weeks, Peter Christie kept the team in the game during this time making several key saves but at the 5:26 mark Oshawa scored from a scramble in front of the net. From this point on Stones' held the edge in the play and were continually around the opponents net but could not put the puck in the net. The final score was one to nothing for Oshawa. This put Stones' in the consollation round against a team from Thornhill, Port started out strong and with 3:30 to go in the first period Kevin Long scored assisted by Paul Sytsma, and with twenty- eight seconds to go in the period Paul Sytsma scored assisted by Simon Brierly to make the score 2 to 0 for Port after one period of play. - The second period saw Thornhill battle back and score two to even the score after two periods. The third period saw many chances missed around each net but with 5:50 to go in the game Thornhill scored 'to .put them up by one goal. Port continued to press but with 2:19 to go in the game the local gang received a penalty and it semmed that at this point it was all over. At the 1:57 mark Stan Glass fed a perfect pass to Kevin Long at the red line and he broke up ice all alone and made a perfect shot to beat Thornhills goaltender to tie the score. It started to look like overtime was going to be necessary but with 1:21 to go Tod Menzies picked up the puck and went through the entire Thornhill team and picked the corner of the net and scored the winning - goal. The last two goals that were scored were done so with a Port player in the penalty box. Stones' came up against Richmond Hill in the finals for the Consolation trophy. Port started out slowly and found themselves down by one goal at the 2:37 mark. From this point on Port controlled the play and at the 5:07 mark tied the score ---- nin a Basement Floors Garage Floors Patios - Sidewalks : J Concrete Steps ) Accepted Credit Cards ~ DON'S CUSTOM "CONCRETE FINISHING ) ] } Quality Workmanship {3} ) ,@c8 Car Care Specializing in: © ON-CAR WHEEL BALANCING © MINOR REPAIRS & TUNE-UPS © OIL CHANGE & LUBRICATION - © FRONT END & BRAKE REPAIR © TIRE SALES & SERVICE ~(Mew & Used Tires) MASTER CHARGE TEXACO - CHARGEX TAYLOR'S TEXACO Corner of Union & 7A Hwy.
