PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Apr. 13, 1977 -- 3 Cabaret: Dancing girls, music, booze... Honky-tonk piano, barber- shoppers, Laurel and Hardy film clips, Can-Can dancers and much, much more promises to make Saturday, April 23 at Town Hall 1873 one of the most unique and entertaining events to date. "It's not just because we're serving booze," smiles an enthusiastic Cabaret organizer Diane Lackie, it's the total atmos- phere that we're trying to "get going for us--the music and the fun. If this takes off, we'll. do more of it, perhaps more than annually," hints Diane. The event, loosely organ- ized by design to provide flexibility, features scores of people on the entertain- ment end, from well-known local pianist Dr. Tom Millar (listed in the Cabaret Night agenda as Mad Tom) to a stand-up comedy -act by high school teacher John Addison. There will be two shows, the first at 9 p.m., the second at 11 p.m. Tickets Prince Albert by Mrs. Grace Beacock Our church is elderly, in fact over a century, plus large seating accoomoda- tion. As a result a goodly majority of pews were - occupied for the Easter service when many new faces and visitors were present. The chancel area was enhanced by pots of the pure lily and multi-colour tulips. Our choir members rendered lovely anthem as did a portion of the Sunday School directed by Mrs. R. Hope and Mrs. D. Mec- Millan. Miss Mary Clugston favoured with a beautiful vocal solo. Mrs. R. "Linda' Hunter ably presided at the organ throughout the hour. The congregation were again richer from Rev. Brawn's message. Offering gathered by Cecil Reid and Doug McMillan after a very impressive worship. We are sorry to learn Mrs. Ellen'Bond, wife of the late Walter Bond, Toronto, (continued on page 15) are at the door only; and an age limit of 18 will be in force. Three films will be featur- ed in the first show; Buster Keaton's 'Cops', a W.C. Fields film "The Fatal Glass of Beer, and the Laurel and Hardy classic "Them That Hills." . But perhaps the most promising thing about the show will be audience parti- '""'We hope to cipation. TO FERTILIZE YOUR LAWN WITH QUALITY C.LL. FERTILIZERS. Peat Moss - Evergreens - Shrubs - Trees - etc. create an old-fashioned good-time atmosphere, the audience is part of that." "It's something new for this community, and there's always a bit of uncertainty about something that hasn't been tried before," says Lackie. But she's optimistic. "The music, the fun, the entertainment...and the booze. It's just got to be successful," she smiles.
