Amgng those were Mr. and Mrs. Greg Smith .and family who entertained Liz's brother and family, Mr, and, Mrs, Alex Monro, Katy and Duncan of Mont- real and Mrs. Alice Monro of London for the weekend. Mrs. Elaine Smith of Toronto also joined the gathering for dinner on Easter Sunday. Mrs. Monro is remaining for a few days to visit with the Smiths. Congratulations to Mrs, Heywood Short who was the lucky winner of a weekend for two at the Lord Simcoe Hotel in Toronto at the Hospital Auxiliary's Fashion Show last Wednes- day. Todd Willerton had a con- frontation -with a baseball bat on Sunday and wound out being the loser by hav- ing a broken nose. You can't hardly trust anyone anymore can you Todd? The Fashion Show spon- sored. by the Hospital Auxiliary was a decided * success for the ladies last Wednesday evening. Over 600 attended this most entertaining evening. There is a tremendous amount of planning, time and effort that goes into arranging a show of this type and with- > out the fantastic support of the local merchants an evening like that would not be possible. Many thanks to all those who were involved in any way. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Wana- enjoyed having home of their son and family, Mr. and, Mrs. Ron Wanamaker of Oshawa. * Mr. and Mrs. Neil Wana- maker and family had Mr, and Mrs. Ian Fraser and family of Toronto down for the weekend. According to Peyton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Peyton of RR 1 Port Perry, his mother had had a difficult time sleeping that night. She had recently had her ears pierced, and a slight inflamation had dis- turbed her sleep most of the night, But when she woke up at about 4:30 a.m. Monday morning, she heard noises in the house. On investigat- - 7 ing, she discovered that the _area underneath the stair- way to upstairs bedrooms was on fire. She alerted her 17-year-old daughter, Debrah, who was sleeping in one of the upstairs bed- rooms, and her husband, and the family fled the house. David Peyton was staying at an uncle's cottage at the time. A family cat died in the flames. Port Perry fire hall chief, Jack Cook, called the fire a potential disaster. He said that had Mrs. Peyton not sounded the alarm, the fire could well have burned David R. H. Cornish students taking part in a voluntary Mathematics : !
