8 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Apr. 13, 1977 Lindsay Howsam elected Port Perry 4-H president The first meeting of the Port Perry 4-H Dairy Club was held last Tuesday night at the farm of Keith Phoenix in Greenbank. John Finlay started the meeting by handing out our literature then proceeded Wintario Tickets available at the Port Perry Star 985-7383 with the election of officers. The - placing of officers was as follows: president - Lindsay Howsam, vice secretary - Robert Baird. We 'then went over the parts of the cow followed by a judging of our Holstein cows in milk. King chairman Pine Ridge "Trees for Canada" Mr. Wayne King of Green- - bank has accepted the chair- manship for organizing Pine Ridge District 'Trees for Canada' project in 1977. Mr.. Lloyd Parliament, President 'Pine Ridge Dis- trict Council" Boys Scouts of 'Canada stated Mr. King has the project under way. He Former reeve dies Neil Arthur Smith A former reeve of East Whitby Township, Neil Arthur Smith, died Thurs- day in Oshawa General Hospital following a short illness. A farmer in the Oshawa area all his life, he was also associated for 25 years with his brother in the operation of Smithlands Trucking Ltd. In addition to his service on the township council, where he also served as councillor and deputy reeve, Smith was a member of the board of governors of Dur- ham College, of Brooklin IOOF, and of Mount Zion Lodge 39, AF and AM. He was also a member of the Oshawa Scottish Rite Club, the Toronto Lodge of Perfection, and Columbus United Church. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Smith, he was born in Bowmanville on March 30, 1925. He is survived by his wife, the former Ruby Griffin, three daughters, Mrs. Richard Beare (Joan) of Port Perry; Mrs. Brian Healey (Ruth), Miss Mar- lene Smith, and a son, Brian, all of RR 1, Oshawa. A brother, Glenn of RR 1 Oshawa also survives. Another brother, Donald W., predeceased him. The funeral "took place" TT RRL from the Armstrong Funeral Home on Monday, April 11 with interment in Oshawa Union Cemetery. A masonic service was conducted by the Mount Zion Lodge on Sunday, April 10th at the Funeral Home. has been assured of. the full support of all Scouters along with District Council, Pine Ridges 'Trees for Canada' is part of a nation- al project in which two nillion trees will be planted this year. Every province . will be involved in this project. It is our hope that all citizens of Pine Ridge Dis- trict will support the Scouts in this project. Preliminary estimations are that at least two - hundred Cubs and » Scouts. will plant. 6000- trees on six' acres. J Pledges will be sought by participants, Mr. King will try to see that each house- hold is contacted only once for a pledge. .
