The conservation author- ity and conservation in general has been a growing controversy - in the aréa. There is a proposal before the natural resources minis- try now that, on the request Local family 'adopts' 4-year-old Bali child A very special commit- ment has been made by Mr. John Rodway and family of Port Perry, who have joined Foster Parents Plan of Canada. The province has taken an even further step, suggest- ing that CLOCA might extend to include not only most of Scugog Township, but also that part of the Scugog system that extends into Victoria County. The north shore of Lake Scugog lies in Mariposa Township, and the river flows north through Ops Township, the town of Lind- say and a' tiny section of Fenelon Township before opening into Sturgeon Lake. Presumably, if natural resources officials want to include the entire Scugog watershed in the CLOCA extension, all these areas would have to be included. There are rumblings of a growing concern to the north of Scugog as well, and there is a concerted effort in Victoria County to take another crack at establish- ing a northern conservation authority, seperate from CLOCA. The effort, according to some officials in Victoria, would have to include at least part of Scugog Town- ship. There has been talk of . setting up preliminary talks with neighbouring (Scugog- Durham Region) officials, - but there's apparently been little progress in this regard. : Perhaps one of the reasons for the hesitancy is the fact that at least two attempts to organize a Scugog conservation authority in recent years have failed. Both failed mainly because municipali- ties 'which drain into the Kawartha system north of Scugog have been reluctant to join. At this Thursday's rate- payers' meeting, the public will not only get a chance to get a conservationist's view, but a question and answer period included in the pro- gram will give local people a chance to clear up any ambiguities about the problem. The meeting will also focus on conservation in general, including the show- ing of a film on the subject. Local representative on CLOCA, Coun. Vernon Asselstine will also be on hand. ol A A A A A A A lf A AA TF FFF fl fF A ff SF SS SL em tra prs ANALDA Garden Centre ' A GOOD CHOICE OF TOP QUALITY SHRUBS, TREES & EVERGREENS.
