William Medland, 26 Queen Street, Brooklin, recently cele- brated their 50th wedding anniversary, at the home of their son and daughter-in- law, John and Jean Med- land. / Mr. and Mrs. Medland, the former Etta White, were married at the United Church Manse in Brooklin, April 20th, 1927, and have always lived in the village of Brooklin. Assisting Mr. and Mrs. Medland receive the 350 guests were Mrs, Hugh Gil- christ of Oshawa, sister of the bride, and bridesmaid of 50 years ago, and the coup- les two grandchildren, Wil- liam Medland Jr. of Wind- sor, and Barbara Mata of Oshawa, also Tony Mata. Serving the guests were Married 50 years nieces of the honoured couple, Mrs. Arthur Rowan, Mrs. Clifford Gordon, Mrs. William Werry, Mrs. Allan Kivell, Mrs, Marvin Kivell, Mrs. Carman Barkley, Mrs, Robert Gilchrist, Mrs. Bruce Mitchell, Mrs.. Doug- las Jackson, Mrs. George 'Reeson, Mrs. Alfred Jack- son, Mrs. Stuart Reeson, Mrs. Orval Jackson, and Mrs. Grant Mowbray. Congratulations were received from Prime Minis- ter Trudeau, and J. E. Broadbent, M.P. A plaque was received from Premier William Davis, and a dozen yellow roses was received from the Mayor, council, and citizens of the Town of Whitby. The couple were recipients of many other lovely floral arrangements, beautiful gifts and cards. 'Ashburn area news by Mrs. R. Heron A happy occasion was held in the Community Centre last Friday evening' in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Ashton who were married recently. They were presented with a red- wood garden set of four chairs and a table. Mr. E. Heron introduced the couple and extended best wishes to them. Lunch was served by the Young People under the direction of Mrs. Betty Gardiner and Jane and all enjoyed a social time together. Several from the area attended the Flower Show and Japanese Flower Arranging and a talk on hanging plants and gardens in the United Church hall in . Brooklin on Wednesday evening of last week. We are glad to report Mr. Frank Lynde is able to be home from Port Perry hospital "after a bout of pneumonia. . Mrs. Walter Lynde at the time of writing is confined to Port Perry hospital. We hope she will have a speedy recovery. The men had a work bee at the church last Saturday and much improved the appearance of the church yards. It was a beautiful morn- ing on Sunday, May 1st. At the morning church service, "~ the choir sang "Now I Belong to Jesus' and Rev. McEntyres sermon was "The Healing purposes of God". Mrs. Ross Batten was in charge of Jr. church. She will be showing some of her beautiful slides. Miss Hilda Hopkins and Mrs. Leola Fiss visited with Miss Mary Hopkins in the Oshawa Hospital on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Alma English and Mr} Steve Wilsori of Woodville visited with Mary and were dinner guests with Mrs. W.
