CLOSED SUNDAYS Scugog Council Briefs DOG CONTROL A complaint by a Caes- area resident over the lack of dog control in that com- munity prompted Scugog Council to look into the pos- sibility of hiring another dog control officer on a temporary or part time basis. Council recognized that the problem of dogs running at large appears to be increasing in several areas, and it was suggested that a blitz-type round-up of these dogs could persuade their owners to keep them under better control. TRAP SHOOTING - Permission was granted to Gord Grainger and Glenn Hall of Uxbridge for a per- mit to operate a trap shoot- ing and practise range bn private property on the north side of Highway 47. Mr. Hall and Mr. Graing- er told Council that the area was - safe, that only shot- guns would be used, and TARA pa bos 2 bo E> ps # 23 SS SAE that they are both members of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters. Concern was expressed that the shooting noise might disturb people living in. the area. The permit granted is on a trial basis, allowing shooting on Wed- nesdays from 10 to 4, and Sundays from 1:00. to 4:00. The permit will be reviewed in two months time, NEW LIGHTING Pending approval by the Ministry of Communic- ations, new street lights will be installed at the corners of Highway 7A and Durham Road 7 and at the corner of Highway 7A and Durham Road 57. Council agreed to the new lights if the Ministry would subsidize half the estimated cost of $5,667. for the instal- lation at the two locations. The Township would be responsible for the remain- der of the installation costs, as well as the full cost of operation and maintenance. Hall rentals have been dropping off recently because the liquor board will not grant permits until the washroom facilities have been improved. Attend re-union Dr. G. Harold Jackson and Mrs. Jackson recently attended the doctors 1927 Class Reunion at the University of Toronto. They attended a dinner and re-union on Wednesday, June 8 at the York Club and on Thursday the Medical Alumni held a banquet at Hart House to honour the class of 1927 and 1977. Twenty five students of the 1927 class were in atten- dance with 270 in atten- dance for the 1977 class, 40 of which were women.
