Club. = Mr. Hogg made a farewell speech to the students and Stephen Kris- tensen made a farewell speech on behalf of the students, A welcome to grade 9 was given by Mr. Paisley and Mr. Williams and Mrs. Christie gave greeting from the board. The Annual Mountjoy picnic was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Mountjoy on Sunday. Rela- tives from London, St.- Catharines, Oakville, Toronto and Blackstock area enjoyed the day visit- in g. The Cartwright Senior Citizens entertained the Senior Citizens from Tyrone last Thursday evening with films. "British Columbia in the "1700's", the second was on Laurel and Hardy" and two comic readings by Mrs, Ella Venning. - They also played cards for an' hour, Mrs. Ethel Gibbs won the" ladies high prize and Art Bailey won the high score, Mrs. Fish won the bologna. Craig Paisley won the prize for crokinole. Lunch was served and everyone enjoy- ed the evening with the attendance of 65. Dave Van Weston' by Caroline Carnaghan The 3rd Durham 4-H sheep club was held last Wednesday evening at 8:00 p.m. at the farm of Bruce Taylors. John Ayre, acting president, opened the meet- ing with the 4-H pledge. Jim Coombs then inform- ed us that our trip to New Liskeard was all set. We are planning this trip for August 4, 5 and 6. We plan to camp out at nearby camping grounds, a 4-H first. On the 5th we plan to see the New Liskeard Agri- cultural College. Doug Larmer then intro- duced an exchange student from Northern Ireland, whose name was Denis Boyd. Denis had spent last week at Larmers. Denis proceeded to show us how the sheep are sheared across the ocean. Wool over there sometimes sells for 80 cents a pound, maybe the sheep farmers had better move to Ireland! After shearing the sheep,. Denis rolled it and tied it not with twine but the wool itself, Next we judged a class of mature ewes. Jim Coombs officially placed them. . We then moved inside, out of the cats. Guest speaker, 'Don Stevenson, was not able to be present, so we settled on 'Murray from the Agri- cultural Office. Murray Emke is new to Durham but Wright of Ames, Iowa, were "last week visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wright and other relatives in the area. Mr, and Mrs. Ross Atkin- son enjoyed a 3 day visit last week with their sons, Peter and Patric of Bramp- ton and also spent a morn- ing at Ontario Place. Elaine ; Wright, Hamilton and Eléanor Wright of Lon- don spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wright. On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. "Bob Bryans and family, Edie Alstein and Rick Alpe attended at Hayden a family reunion of about 45 "descendants of the late May and Morley Wilkins, Little Joel Schryburt is a patient in Oshawa General Hospital. , He hopes to be home by the end of the week. we're keeping him busy. He gave us a very interest- ing talk on The Ontario Sheep Testing Program sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and food.
