We'll hope for better luck next year. Last Wednesday evening the "Head" U.C.W.met at the home of Mrs. Heayn at Gerrow's Beach. The seventeen ladies pres- ent included guests Doreen Adam and Jan Gerrow who were very interested and helpful with suggestions. The theme of the devotional was "The Bible" and was conducted by Reta Wilson's group. The roll call asked us to Jim tell where we would like to go for a holiday. Hawaii and England seemed to be most popular choices. During the business, we considered catering for the wedding of Helen Hortop's son and supplying food for a wedding reception for an acquaintance of Clara Dow- son. Wedding reception prices were reviewed. It was noted that a pres- entation is underway for two more Island brides. Varied readings were given by Reta Wilson, Clara Dowson and Marylyn Heayn. On Sun. Rev. Linstead conducted the Island Ser- Nestleton meeting (continued) Access to the developments come off either Highway 7A or Nestleton Road. Although those attending the meeting expressed no specific objections to the proposal, there was some discussion as to the demand for single family units dur- ing the next two decades. Dr. Michael suggested that this demand likely would decrease, although Nestle- ton is within fairly easy commuting range of Oshawa and Whitby. This would change however, if gagoline prices continue to climb. There was one question from the floor concerning the possibility of contamina- tion of existing wells, and whether some land adjacent to existing lots could be used if an existing well did become contaminated. It was suggested that some kind of negotiated agree- ment might be worked out between the land owners if a specific problem did arise. It is expected that Scugog Township Council will adopt the proposal within the next six weeks and it will become part of the Durham Region official plan. Mayor Lawrence Malcolm chaired the meeting, and councillors Don Crosier, Reg Rose, Neil McLaughlin and Vern Asselstine attend- vice. Several arrangements | of flowers brightened the church. We are always pleased to see the summer visitors back with us. Rey. Linstead will be with us again for the next two Sun- days. Although the children and teachers take a rest during the summer, some children were present and they re- ceived their usual interest- ing meaningful story. It was about pirates who once lived on a desolate island in the North Sea and had no way of obtaining a living except by plundering pass- ing ships. When the king's attacks failed to stop them, he sent a 25 year old man to. the Island to see what he could do. Much as our missionaries do today, he studied their needs and be- gan to plant things to show them they didn't need to be pirates. As the trees grew birds and nightingales brought their songs. Even- tually satisfaction and happiness took over the old life. After church many of the congregation remained to meet Miss Janice Gibson who had answered our ad requesting leadership in music. Enthusiasm was in evidence with the result that Miss Gibson has been engaged until Sept. with the hopes of having a choir during this period. Many people showed interest and promised to help the youth, 16 years and up, that we OOOIOCICICICOICICICICICICICICICIC SS SSS SS SS SS SS I SN ICICI CIC SESS INES 25052525252525 2525252525255 20S RGGI ICICCICICICICICICICICICIC OOOO eo SWIMMING POOL (Lifeguard on Duty) e PICNIC TABLES Suitable for Family Outings, Picnics eo WASHROOM FACILITIES ~ With Hot & Cold Showers e SCENIC TREED AREA e SNACK BAR ® RESTAURANT | Cedar Stone | Park HWY. 7 & 12 - 1 Mile North of Greenbank NOW OPEN For your summer enjoyment !
