The 138 seat theatre is located just off Queen Street at the rear of the new Royal Bank buildings with im- pressive renovations carred out prior to.the opening. The owners plan to run two shows on Friday, Satur- day and Sunday nights and one show each other night of the week. For the re- mainder of this week '""The Outlaw Josey Wales" will be playing, and then '""Jaws" will open on Sunday, July 24. COUNTRY VARIETYMART With 2400 square feet of store space, Country Varietymart at Port Perry Plaza will offer shoppers a wide list of items including groceries, greeting cards, tobaccos, health and beauty 'aids and films. Owners Steve and 'Theresa Smegal say the operation will be run as a convenience store and initially will be open until 9 p.m. seven days each week. This could be extended to 11:00 p.m. each day. Mr. Smegal has been in the variety store business in Oshawa for about 15 years. He says that one of the reasons for opening in Port Perry was that "we have always liked this area, and decided to take advantage of this opportunity". Mrs. Smegal has taken an active part in the business, and will be working from time to time in the new Port Perry store. Celebrate 58th anniversary About 16 friends, neigh- bours and former school mates gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ploughman to honour them on their 58th wedding anni- versary. After a mock wedding, a reading and a presention of The Queen's 25th Anniver- sary mug, and two love birds. Several games of euchre were played. A dainty lunch, including anniversary cake was served and several lucky prizes were donated by the bride and groom of 58 years. Many more years together -were wished the happy couple. . DON FORDER INSURANCE Don Forder Insurance Agency opened officially July 13 with temporary offices in the plaza at the corner of Water Street and Highway 7A. Mr. Forder is no stranger to either the insurance business or the Scugog area having been a representa- tive here for eight years. His new agency will carry a general line of insurance including house, auto, commercial, liability, marine and motorcycle. For the time being at least, Mrs. Forder will be helping out with the book- keeping and accounting end of the business. PATTERSON'S OF PORT Nelson and Mary Cath- erine Patterson opened their new store July 16 in the old Royal Bank offices on the north side of Queen Street. . The store with more than 1200 square feet of retail space will carry imported giftware, crystal, copper houseware, china and wood- en utensils as well as greet- ing cards, wrapping paper, office and school supplies. The inside of the store has been extensively renovated with imaginative use made of the old vault room. The steel doors have been polished and left where they are, and the inside of the vault has been stuccoed to be used as a display area. The Pattersons have lived fir Anan' on Scugog Island for the last three years. Mrs. Patterson will handle the day-to-day operation of the store. Mr. Patterson works at Toronto Dominion head office in Toronto. They say they have always wanted to get into business for them- selves, and expressed confi- dence in the future pros- pects for the business community in Port Perry.
