Cedar Creek News It was interesting to read in a recent issue of the Bowmanville Statesman that Merlin Slute had retir- ed from the teaching profession. © Merlin's first school was the Cedar Creek school and several of his first pupils attended his re- tirement party in Bowman- ville. Congratulations to Mr." and Mrs. Ernie Guenther on the birth of a daughter. Karin Cummings of Ornageville is home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Cummings. That was how Mrs. W. Fox described the reunion when she and Mrs. Rene Hedges arrived June 10 for a visit with their sister Mrs. W.A. Graham of Port Perry. George Kilpatrick visited Mr. EH. Joll at Newcastle on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Bea- cock of Thornloe are visit- ing Mr. and Mrs. Victor Larocque and other relativ- es in the area. Mrs. Kit Klowitter and children returned home on Saturday from a trip to Newfoundland where they visited relatives. Norris Doherty and George Kilpatrick were at Woodville on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Trepanier and Mr. Leo Trepanier all of Toronto were Friday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Larocque. Sisters re-unite after 60 years they met again. Mrs. Fox is from Jersey, Channel Islands, and Mrs. Hedges is from Bristol, in the southwest of England. Mrs. Graham, who is now almost 85 and the eldest of the three sisters, left the British Isles in 1920, and with her husband settled a few miles north of Port Perry. The three ladies reunion 'had gone by - too quickly," as Mrs. Fox and Mrs. Hedges were to return July 12 to the British Isles. But they added that the five weeks had been a won- derful experience for them. "We haven't stopped or laughing for the whole time," said Mrs. Fox. During their time in Ontario, the visitors from the British Isles have travelled to Niagara Falls, and other tourist spots in southern Ontario, as well as a trip to Manitoulin Island mini CINEMA QUEEN & PERRY STREETS PORT PERRY (Behind the Royal Bank) and the Sudbury area. Both Mrs. Fox and Mrs. Hedges found Canada to be vast, and they said that parts of the province reminded them of the British Isles. And like most visitors from other coun- tries they were amazed at the prosperity and wealth in the province. "Canada certainly has a lot going for it," said Mrs. Hedges. At the same time she said that all the people they have met here have been most kind and sociable.
